hope he has a PSV licence.

Doesn't need one. He needs a C class HGV. He has removed the seats and it is not for hire. He can get it reclassified as a MotorCaravan easily enough.

It's what I did with my Optare Metrorider.

There are two ways they can get them

The Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 if the land they are using does not have PP and a site licence and they are there with the owners permission.

or

Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994
1994 c. 33Part V Powers to remove unauthorised campers Section 77

Power of local authority to direct unauthorised campers to leave land..

(1)If it appears to a local authority that persons are for the time being residing in a vehicle or vehicles within that authority’s area—.
(a)on any land forming part of a highway;.
(b)on any other unoccupied land; or.
(c)on any occupied land without the consent of the occupier,.
the authority may give a direction that those persons and any others with them are to leave the land and remove the vehicle or vehicles and any other property they have with them on the land.

Good luck to them I say.

I was thinking along the same lines Paul ..

First law of fulltiming .. tell no one,...

Disagree Jim

We have found no problems with being open and honest about how we live.

Yes you pay more for insurance but it is better to be covered than be left stranded if you are not honest about your circumstances.

Perhaps I should have qualified my statement, .. tell no one who doesn't need to know.. Your insurer is a good example of someone who must know..

So how many fulltimers pay council tax ?

Shouting it out on the national press could draw unwelcome attention.. ie the council will probably chase them for council tax and as you mentioned, the may be in breach of the caravan act 1960 ..

Like I say, best to keep quiet ..

I wonder how much support they would get on this forum if they were 'travellers'? .. just a thought..

It's Definitely a C. D/D1 not needed. I have just been through all this with my Bus. The Bus will be over 7.5T but they are not carrying passengers for reward.

No you are wrong Karl, you are not a youngster anymore, sorry ::bigsmile:::bigsmile:

I saw the story last week and the chaps name is Daniel and he comes from Canterbury and I wished he was my son, also called Daniel and up until today he came from Canterbury ::bigsmile:

We are in this world where we live in a fixed abode all our lives.......first one paid for by our parents, then one paid for by ourselves and then for eternity in a box.

How great to be free as these guys are, stuff the bureaucracy and just live. I imagine these guys will work when they need to, pay their taxes as they should and live their lives as they want without inflicting their wishes and demands on others........

started when I was 11 with my parents-forgot to stop!been real one since 1980!
When my 2 daughters were young, Summer Holiday was their favourite film we had it on Video and then DVD,my eldest daughter, for her birthday, went to see the stage show. Whenever we went away in the van,the tape or CD was the first thing we played as we left our house, especially when we did the same trip to Greece,in our Hymer 'bus'.
Here is the news film report http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-18651140

Can't remember ;)
I cannot help but think it could be an idea for students :thumb:If they convert a van and leave it registered as a van they would be able to get insurance :thumb: If they change it to motor caravan it is very hard/pricey to insure under 25s --OK they only get paid out a van price for a claim but knowing students they will only have basics so it does not matter that much ::bigsmile:

Terry - I believed, dunno why? - it was virtually impossible to insure a van (transit sized I mean) if you were under 25?

hi .when both mine were young we insured them both in their own right. we found coop was cheap for them .and gave them the ability to drive other peoples vehicles with permission .
at one time we found they could insure my vwt25 2.1 fuel inj cheaper than a vauxhall nova . seemed daft as it was 112bhp. but any one with teanage kids try coop.

I know:cry::cry::cry: ... I was hoping I could still away with it.:Doh:

I am a youngster in relation to driving licenses as I am probably one of only a handful on this forum who didn't get any grandfather rights. I had to take my C1 to drive my last proper motorhome and first self build. I don't have any +E entitlements on my license. I took my test in 99 and was limited to 3.5T....

Got to so the training for the C1 was the best thing I ever did. I am still toying with the idea of going for my full C+E...
