Thetford fridge problem (1 Viewer)

We have just replaced the display panel on our thetford fridge, as the old one was not working, we have connected this one up but nothings happening when you turn it on, nothings lighting up , please any suggestions what else could be the problem?

Was the 'old' control panel lighting up ?

Who diagnosed a faulty panel .. and how was that conclusion arrived at ?

First things first, have you established that there is a 12v supply to the fridge and panel ?

Thank you for your reply, the old display panel had one of the control buttons broken ( it had come away from the display panel the solder on one edge had snapped), so we thought that must be the problem so just ordered a new one. But obviously now there is something else wrong, the fridge is one that works , on mains, 12 volt and gas. We are baffled.

The fridge has a 12v supply to run the electronics, this is an independent supply, not the same supply that does the cooling while driving.

Have you checked all 12v fuses ? This is best done with a multimeter as they can be blown but look ok ... there may also be an in-line fuse in the 12v supply cable that goes to the fridge

If they are ok the next step is to get behind the fridge and check the supply with a multimeter .. you can normally do this by removing the lower fridge vent on the outside. .. look for a plug or connector block with the 12v supply.

If the supply is there then the next step is to look for the fridge fuse .. it's possible you blew it when changing the control panel..


If you are not happy about doing this I suggest asking someone who is or take it to a dealer.. good luck.

It would be useful if you could tell us the fridge model number in order to find the correct drawing.

My Thetford had a new LCD last year, ok at the time, now LCD lights up shows all souplies working ie no scanners, blue light static, but the fridge won't work, engineer coming today poss new pcb required, thankfully still under warranty, I will tell you what the Outcome is. Peter

Thank you for your replies, yes you are right it does all light up and work whilst driving, but as soon as you turn the engine off and try turning it on it won't work. Its a thetford N145 AD L Where will the fridge fuse be? Or is that not the problem now that it all works ok whilst driving ?

Don't know if this helps but this is a quote from an installation manual.

The high current connection (HC, red wire +, white wire -) provides current to the DC heater of The cooling system. This connection should be connected to a continues DC supply. Connect the red and the white wire directly without any breakers (e.g.contact) to the vehicle starter battery. This connection is protected on the power board with a 20A fuse.
The low current connection(LC, purple wire +, black wire -) provides a continues current of DC for the power board of the refrigerator. This DC supply is obtained via the connection to the auxilary battery or via the 230V AC‡DC transformer. This connection is protected on the power board with a 2A fuse.
