Has anyone been there this year, I believe a lot of changes have been done and the aire and carpark along the causeway is no longer, I know the last time i went they were busy with a big construction just before the village, that is now the new car park/motorhome park with aparently quite high charges and getting to the Mont is either by foot or shuttlebus. They have also built kennels for the comfort of dogs as they are not allowed at the abby (charge of €7 for that), by the tourist information centre. Below is a link to the New Access for Le Mont St Michel

Link Removed

No longer will anyone be able to park up and watch the sunset and the Mount light up looking so magical.
Check out the photos and video as that shows you the new parking areas and access etc.

We visited 2 years ago and we"re doing so again in July, tho" staying at a site not too far away. Definately worth a visit and it looks like it may be better after all the work, access was looking a bit tired/shabby .Cheers for the link.:thumb:

Oh how cynical! stay one night and pay for 2 as the charges run from 2am to 2am @ €12.50 per day.

I will say that, they know how to make the most of it don't they?

This is to deter overnighting, it's NOT a MH aire, it is a car / motorhome park

Please note: the car park is not equipped to welcome motor-homes at night. They are allowed to park there at night, but the park can, in no way, be considered as an accommodation area for motor-homes (no waste point, no water supply, etc.).

I certainly welcome the changes. Last time we visited in 2006 the car park looked like a refugee camp.. will be nice to see it in it's 'natural' maritime setting ..

Hi People, We are planning to head to France this summer with our first motorhome and visit Mont-St-Michel as our first stop and were hoping to stay over, now we wont be able to. Paulh says there is another site close is there any chance Paul you could let me have details or if anyone else knows of any aires or sites close.
Thanks in advance Gary

Last year when we visited we stayed on the aire at the t junction opposite the main campsite, which was cheaper than the car park at Mont St. Michel, it is listed in the Aires book.
Only a short cycle or 10-15 min walk away

On the link i posted check under motorhome and scroll down it gives sites and aires local to mont st michel.
We usually use Haliotis at Pontorson which is a very nice camp site with choice of pitch size and also pitches with individual bathrooms

I was there week before last.
Didn't go across the causeway to the Aire but did go in the large one attached to the car park. Easy access, well signed and v. pleasant.

You can also stay overnight by the canal (could be a river) in a village called Beauvoir 4 kms away. In the carpark behind the "biscuit" shop.

I stayed at the Campeople at St Gregoire also but not great.

Thanks to all those that have posted back about sites near Mont St Miche at least we will still have some where close to stay and be able to cycle in to see the mount instead of just using the carpark and having to move on.
Thanks again Gary

In my humble opinion Mont St Michel is best viewed from a distance anyway. Once you get inside the gate it's an unashamed commercialised honeypot full of non-stop tourist tat.

Great if you collect plastic medieval knights, but somewhat disappointing otherwise. France can (and does) do far better than that.

Last time we were there we stayed in an aire (Google Maps 48.613761,-1.507616) which was a converted campsite just on the right before you hit the neon-lit hotel/diner strip of La Caserne that makes the whole place look like it's been transplanted from Orlando.

Here's a nice picture I took from a safe distance one night - we won't be going any closer again:
