Rear Springs on a Fiat (1 Viewer)

A friend has a 05 plate Auto Trail Scout on a Fiat Ducato chassis. His van has just passed the MOT but he was advised that the rear `springs` will need changing at a cost of around £500.

Does anyone know the correct name for these springs in order that he can do some ringing round for prices.

hi if its on the fiat chasis and not alko then they will be leaf springs although there are several different lengths.

He is not quite sure, he has had a look underneath and says they are about 4ft long, suggesting leaf type springs.

The MOT guy advised him to move some weight from the back to the front in the meantime.

i would suggest looking at air assistance to completely overcome this problem as new springs will do the same in time as leaf springs weren't designed to be fully loaded all the time.

I agree with ABA..
If that amount of cash needs spending then maybe consider air assist,..
I had air ride fitted to our apache 700, made a lot more stable...

HOWEVER, the 05 scout maybe an Alko chassis, so might need further investigation..!

Another note.
If they have been flattened down it might also be a possible sign of overloading, may want to check his weight and how much he's carrying... !!

What is the easiest way to check if it is a ALKO chassis.

Hi try Midland Road Springs they replaced 1 leaf in the leaf spring very reasonable priced and done in a day cost was in the region of £40 to £50.

This may not be the case but some people have been told before with leaf springs on a Fiat that they needed changing when they were ok as some of them do bend the other way from new
