A good flight with Virgin Atlantic on Saturday other than the muslim couple sitting directly behind us, he had a stinking cold , coughing and sneezing all the way and couldn't see his missus , had one of those furkin things on.
I listened for ticking all the way , glad when we went off and he hadn't :Eeek:
Arrived at Chicago Marriott about 3pm, great hotel on Michigan Ave (the magnificent mile) Our room on the 32nd floor overlooks Lake Michigan as well as some tower blocks, helluva sight night and day.:thumb:
Nothing is cheap, in fact its damned expensive , a pint of beer £5, little in the way of cheap food unless you want junk.

The NATO talks took place here over the week end with many of the PMs etc including Barack Obama staying close by. As a result the traffic and police control frequently fell into chaos when limos arrived in grand procession, absolutely hilarious with police blowing whistles and waving arms :ROFLMAO:
There were also protests which needed heavy policing with state and interstate forces.

Weather has been sunny with temperatures as high as 32 degs c , 90f, phew
Chicago is a fabulous city with much to see including a smashing waterfront to Lake Michigan with some sandy beaches.

Today, Tuesday we move on, we pick up the RV at 11am then start our trip south towards St Louis and Memphis.

Thanks for the brief Larry, I know what you are saying about faceless passengers on aircraft. Chicago is a great city, some brilliant Irish pubs where the beer is not as expensive and the out of town markets are much cheaper for food but you need more that 4 days to appreciate it. Have a grand next leg of your fabulous trip.

Are you following Route 66 down from Chicago going south. The start is at Adams Street in the city centre? Our TomTom took us right to the start. Even if you do a bit of it - but you may have done it already.

Hi Nigel and Pamala ,

we will follow some of the old route 66 but initially we are heading further south through St Louis to Memphis to see Graceland and do a paddle steamer trip on the Mississipee,
then on to Tulsa, Oklahoma, Amarillo, Alberqurque, Monument Valley,Grand Canyon and finally Las Vegas , taking in r66 where possible.
4 weeks to do it :thumb:

OK we are back on line :001_cool:
Drove from north of St Louis ,through the centre of the city as you do, couldn't find the RV parking but did see many of the sights but afraid no piccies as my navigator/photographer (no names mentioned) was working to rule
Continued another 300 miles south to Memphis and am now parked up on the Graceland RV park.
On the journey south along a rather boring Interstate 55 we saw some dust storms which almost blotted out visibility and the most exciting paddy fields and the corn being arvested :001_tongue: OK that was bloody boring
Now the interesting stuff, took pictures of the wonderfully adorned Cruise America RV and will soon be selling this fabulous artwork to UK RVers with special discounts to RVOC an MHFun members ::bigsmile:
These are said to cover anything including faded stripes and also attempts to cover them at no extra cost
Also recommended for tarting up European motorhomes and c class RVs prior to selling and to end, smaller transfers will be available for placing on your favourite BBQ , George Foremans a specialty :ROFLMAO:
Will post again after our river boat trip tomorrow and a tour of Graceland.
Have posted pictures of beautiful artwork on RV ::bigsmile:

Have a good day y'all :lol::lol:

Must agree the RV looks great, ostentatious brash pretentious with more chrome than you can shake a stick at, but then you are in America where ostentation is the name of the game. Keep them coming.

Don't forget, if travelling most of the day, you've charged your batteries, you don't need to fill with water or empty everyday so camp at Wal-marts overnight, as long as it is on the outskirts of the carpark. Saves a good bit on camp sites. You will not be on your own, plenty people stay at them. We just used to put Wal-mart in the satnav and it goes straight to them. A good experience if you only do it a couple of times. We used to pick up wifi too from some hotels alongside the car park.

Enjoy your travels.

The photo reminds me, I stood on the steps of Gracelands in 1994 along with about 100/120 other tourists, the guide asked where different visitors had come from, a variety of places from the states were offered up then suddenly the person standing next to me shouted she came from Holywell North Wales, about 5 miles up the road from where I live!!

Hi all
we left Hot Springs KOA Mon am and headed towards Tulsa, stayed overnight at Lake Eufaula, Checotah. One hell of a storm in the early hours but fine and hot this morning.

This morning drove into Tulsa and then along around 100 miles of Route 66 to Oklahoma City where we visited the National Cowboy Museum, sounds boring but it was most enjoyable, a reminder of those cowboy and Indian films we used to watch.

Have now arrived at a KOA site just west of El Reno and had a BBQ and sitting out in the hot evening air looking over a lake.
The site leaflet gives details of how to recognise and what to do if a Tornado turns up, ---------shiiiiiiiiit

Off to Amarillo tomorrow if someone will show me the way. Hah

Good morning all,
OK laugh if you will, we had a real cracker of a storm last night, hailstones the size of tennis balls, so needed protective headgear, we had to evacuate to the site shelter as there was a serious tornado risk.
Have not checked for damage to RV yet.:hardhat:
To get there we had to protect our heads from these great big lumps of ice it was like dodging bloody missiles, you should've heard it on the RV roof , frightening It lasted about 3 hours .:Eeek::Eeek:
Tens of thousands of homes lost electricity in Oklahoma City. Hope there's no more like that :whatthe:
Have a good day, we are off to Amarillo this morning

Have travelled and stayed in Amarillo and then Albuquerque, the former being quite pleasant .
Its been hot all the way, 35 degs + and around 18 degs at night.
The route on Interstate 40 is quite boring at times so slanted off onto some of old Route 66 with its derelict garages, motels etc, will post a few more pictures over the weekend.:thumb:
We are now at Holbrook with lots of options to explore so will decide Sat morning where next. Will certainly go to Grand Canyon again as its nearby , awesome place
So far have stayed on KOA sites every time , reasonable quality and price, $31 for a large fully serviced pitch, nice pools and hot tubs and always a very warm welcome.
Shopping at Walmart is easy with their superstores, everthing you need under one roof

More to come

We have travelled from Holbrook through wide open plains and Indian reservations where they live in many cases in what look like derelict sheds in the middle of nowhere surrounded by junk.

Must not forget whilst at Holbrook we visited the Petrified Forest , the remains of tree trunks which were buried some 225 million years ago and have turned to stone in the most beautiful colours and patterns.

Finally through Monument Valley , the huge red sandstone rock formations are an incredible sight. :Eeek:

Having arrived at Lake Powell/ Page and explored what is a beautiful area with a large dam across the Colorado forming a huge lake / reservoir with a backdrop of awesome rock formations .
Tomorrow, Tuesday, we move on to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
2400 miles on the clock so far and more to do and see.

Pictures to follow, have only taken about 800 so far :001_rolleyes:

Left the north rim of the Grand Canyon, always an awesome sight, to travel through Zion to Las Vegas. The Zion valley is spectacular for miles with high mountains all the way through.
Arrived in Las Vegas , hot 38 degs, parked up on Circus Circus KOA campsite close to the strip and have visited the casinos, only gambled a little as this place costs the earth.
Saw Celine Dion at Caesars Palace Colosseum Las Vegas last night, excellent show with a 35 piece orchestra and backing singers, enjoyed every minute even though I am not a fan ( but Win is ).
We hand over the RV tomorrow and stay in a hotel overnight prior to flying back to Chicago and then home on Friday.
An incredible 4 weeks and 3k miles on the clock.
Pictures to follow when internet allows :thumb:

PS will try and bring some sunshine back  its been wall to wall here , nothing less than 35 degs
