Today I turned on my laptop and the speaker icon had disappeared. Since I was listening with my headphones on last night the volume was quite high but since the icon was not there I couldn't turn it down. No amount of going through menus and help tips would bring it back.
What to do? I thought back over all the advice I have ever received from IT professional and quickly came to a solution. What did I do? Simple - I turned it off and on again and guess what, the icon was back and everything worked again.
Does this mean I'm a computer expert now.

If you are on windows 7 click on the little up arrow that is on the panel.
There is a link to customise.
Look for the volume one and ensure that it says "show icon and notifications"

If this is ok. Then it may be drivers issues. Remove the driver and re-install. This should prompt the icon to come back...

I tried all that before I resorted to what we experts call The SOSO:thumb:

I remember many years ago when I was having problems with a desk top computer, remember those? and I phone by nerdy computer expert brother who told me all sorts of things I could do, none of which I understood, then said "you could do a 3 pin reset"??????????

Not a clue what he meant.............

"unplug it and plug it back in" he says
