I have used mine all over Europe and Morocco this winter, buying fuel meals etc with no problems at all. Have checked my bank account regularly and there have been no charges and the rate was very good. Also they pay a small amount into my currant acc for what I have spent.Have noticed that they say you have to build up points before you get the best deal but that for some reason did not apply to me. I have it set up so as to pay the full amount off each month so as to not incur any charges.

This only applies to new cards as new ones no longer get free use abroad, they have to offset foreign purchases instead.

After a bit of looking around found that the only new cards I could find that does not charge for using aboard was the Saga Platinum, Nationwide no longer did free of charge for new customers. Have I got this right.

But if the nationwide offer is right 20% back seems too good to be true!

HSBC have an account whereby you do not pay for foreign ATM transactions. You do have to pay a fee to have this account though. Give with one, take with t'other.

Edit: The Nationwide card is as you say a credit card and so there will be charges somewhere. I have never had a credit card and have never needed one.

Having read through all the blurb the way I see it is the 20% is the figure they allow you to spend abroad without charges. So for example if you spend £1000 in a year in the UK you are allowed £200 to spend abroad without charges. I could be wrong as I often am but thats the way I see it. As I said in a previous post it doesnt apply to me though.
