Hi

We are currently on Chicken Run in the Algarve and planning to leave in early April to wend our way back to Santander for a ferry on the 25th.

Does anyone have any suggestions about sights/sites to visit on our way back. Vaguely thinking we will explore more of mid and north Portugal but open to suggestions. We prefer beach/country areas to cities, but if somewhere is really worth seeing we could investigate that.

We are also open to maybe crossing into Spain for a bit. We will have our dog with us, so pet friendly would be great.

We have the aires book with us.

Any tips would be welcome.

Hi both

Evora is really worth a visit and the Orbitor site is good and easy for town. Markadia in the centre is lovely and owned by a Dutch couple. On the north coast of Spain Candas and Camping Perlora is in a lovely spot. Lovely walk for the dog into town !! The last two are in the Caravan club europe book.

We are heading to Gib, Granada then home leaving tomorrow.

Regards to all at Chicken Run and safe journey home

Spent a week last summer traveling round the Sierra de Segura, it was very pleasant. We went swimming in the mountain streams along with all the locals. We stayed at a couple of campsites but there was also a few aires along the way and one night we parked in the car park where the mountain waterfalls were with no problem.
From there we went further up into central Spain to the Ruidera area, large lakes with lots of campsites around them. Lots of swimming in the lakes.
Once again we spent several nights in different free areas and car parks around the lakes.
Well worth a visit.

We will be arriving at The Chicken Run possible Sunday/Monday, and can discuss with you where we have been in more detail. On our way back from Zahora, Spain, we headed up the west border of Spain as far as the crossing into Portugal at Mourao, as we wanted to visit the castle at Monseraz, what a fantastic place to stay, a lovely aire at the castle with 180 degree views over the barrage Alqueva (the biggest man made lake in Europe). We then headed south to Mina de Sao Domingos, again a great aire but also disused Copper Mines to explore in the village. We also went to see the largest Solar Farm in the world just east of Moura. Then spent 3 nights at the Alcoutim aire. This trip could be done in reverse on your way back up north. We are heading north after leaving The Chicken Run and hope to circumnavigate Portugal as much as we can, heading up the west coast first and then cross into Spain at Badajoz and retrace our steps across the mountains in Spain that we took in the 80's.

See you soon.

hi, i say just get to the west coast and keep as close as you can to the sea . there is some great camping spots . just follow the coast all the way round .
we say if there is a road or track between us and the sea we may be on the wrong road . galecia is fantastic but you may have to miss some as time is short. but its a grand trip.
