Dogs on Marjal (1 Viewer)

Not sure where this should go, we are due at Marjal on 28th March for 2 months, we have a french bulldog, (a rescue who we obtained in Nov 2011)
He has his passport, but just wondered what it is like for walking dogs on site, I know he has to be on a lead, also if there anywhere near where he could have a run off the lead, he will be really miserable if he can't have a run off the lead. Its more difficult as we are not bringing the car, now with all the negative publicity re: A frames. We have some one we could leave him with, but we are away for 3 months plus which is a long time in a dogs life.

At the back of the site and not used yet are hundreds of plots, where every one seems to take their dogs for a walk..

Outside all the in-use toilet/shower blocks are little wooden framed area`s containg sand, which is the doggy toilet..

And alongside these are a special room for Doggy Showers and Baths... proper job...

There are lots of dogs here and as is the norm, have to be kept on a lead..

Certainly a dog friendly site...

And must admit I have not heard one barking away yet, so you would not know they are here till you see them being walked..

I assume you mean the new "Marjal"... ?
The old Marjal also takes dog`s, and has some lovely walks just outside the site along a river which leads to the river mouth and some lovely beaches and forest land..

There is also a dog agility area at the entrance to the site which, we were told, you can let your dog off the lead for a run. If you walk off site and follow the banking along the AP7 on the service road to behind the site there are lots of areas were a dog could run freely without danger.

Make sure you have the pedigree cert as they can get a bit cranky over there with certain looking dog breeds.

for all dog owners going to spain dont forget to get a 'Scalibor tick and flea collar' available from your vet or a vets in spain this will help prevent leishmaniasis, it gives up to 3 months protection against sandfly and mosquito bites as well as tick and flea.
Also do watch where your dog is walking/ sniffing DO NOT let it sniff or walk anywhere near processional caterpillars the hairs cause a nasty reaction which swells the airways very quickly, these hairs also cause a bad reaction to humans as well so no knocking them or kicking them as that will spread the hairs which are designed to fly off the caterpillar. Yes I am very aware of leishmaniasis, we lost a bitch to that in the 80's when we lived on costa del sol, we don't have pedigree cert as he is a rescue dog, but as he is only 12" tall don't think he will get mistaken for a pitbull. He loves to sniff so will have to watch him.
