Looks like a major improvement on previous version. Just downloading it now.

For those who don't know what it is. It is a video player that doesn't require any external codecs. It will play practically any video file format out there.
Multiplatform Windows/Mac/Linux etc.

Definitely my favourite for video, and increasingly for music too. Once you delve deeper into the settings, it becomes very powerful.

I haven't had any problems with the new version sorry. Have you tried posting on their forum. They have a very active community who are usually very helpful?

One of the things I like best about VLC it it can improve the volume on laptops by up to 400%.............even better combine this with an outboard usb speaker
like the tiny but impressive Altec Lansing Orbit USB for 20 squid or less

[ame]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Altec-Lansing-Orbit-USB-Portable/dp/B002NEG0VO/ref=sr_1_19?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1329829235&sr=1-19[/ame]

and you can watch dvds or other films on a laptop in a very civilised way with more than passable sound and great volume,,,,,, quality mono being better than tinny stereo!

Never heard of this before, but I always like to try new things!

First impressions are that its very good at audio, not quite as good at some video, specifically .mov . Playback of some of these are a bit jumpy and distorted, they are OK with quicktime. I'll fiddle some more with it.

My camera generates .mov files, rather than mpg or avi, which is a source of some annoyance to me as I prefer to be in an apple free zone for editting etc.

Thanks for the heads up on Version 2:thumb:

I've used version 1 for some years, much better than Windows media player or Apple's Quick Time.

I like is it's ability to play just about anything you throw at it without spitting it's dummy out ... all to frequent an occurrence with WMP and QT.

I've used and recommended VLC since the year dot.

Interestingly when my current version (1.1.11) checks for an update it says it is the latest version already

Same here..

but version 2 isn't an update as it uninstalls version 1 before installing 2, but odd there in no notification ..

Working fine under XP SP3 here.

But on my underpowered NB100 netbook, also XP, it could not play a test video, sound was continuous but glitching, worse frames updated occasionally.

No matter, I don't use it for video usually.

I first used it last year when I bought a macbook pro, I was having problems with some video I'd made with windows. I now use it a lot. It works really well on the mac, so i won't be upgrading
