When I first joined the Army (Royal Engineers) one of my first jobs was to transport gravel for the footpaths of Minley Manor (which at that time was HQ RE TA), and spread said gravel from the tailgate whilst on the move.

Being petrol engines, if you turned the ignition of for a few seconds at about 40 mph, the turned it back on, the unburnt fuel used to explode in the exhaust. Great for scaring the Paras in Aldershot. You had to be careful though, as too much fuel would blow the exhaust off. Oops, sorry sarge!
