Apologies if this has been done to death, but new to me...I've had a look at some of the 12V tellies in caravan/camping accessory shops and like most 'camping-specific' gear they seem twice as expensive as a 'normal' item. Just seen that Aldi are doing a 19" TV and DVD combo for £110 [http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_23166.htm?WT.mc_id=2012-01-30-10-23] . Am minded to get that + 150W inverter at £30 or so to run it when not on mains hook-up.

Good idea? Or am I missing something?

Think they come with a 3 year guarantee too :thumb:.

We've used one of their earlier offerings in the past, with a small inverter, with no problems but bought an Avtex a couple of years ago ...

I suspect this is 12v already with a transformer. so you could ditch the transformer and buy a 12v lead as I did. How ever check first.

You will find there is a good chance the Aldi one you posted actually is a 12v TV.
Normally running through a transformer from 240V (small black brick) on the power lead. Check in the store, look for the small 12V socket on the back of the set as well as the transformer on the power cable power.

If so, you just need to buy a 12V plug with the same pin as the TV, (Maplins, eBay etc) and you are away. You can also keep and use the 240V supplied mains lead when you have hook up, if you like.

At £110 can't go wrong.:thumb:

I see - for £110 can get a Kogan model and 12V connector. As against £110 + £30 for the mains + inverter route. shall have to pay my money and make my choice - many thanks for the info.

Going down the inverter route will always result in higher loading on your leisure battery
due to the inbuilt loss of the inverter effectively with an inverter in this case you are transforming 12v to 220-240v to then change it back to 12v again with tv`s own power supply? Does not make sense to me, uneconomical use of precious battery power.
As previous posts check it has in fact got power supply lead and that its output is 12v.
Hope this helps

My TV/DVD was originally sold as a mains model but was actually 12v with a transformer. As i was never planning on using it from the mains I just cut the transformer end off the lead and put a 12v plug on it:thumb:. If you do this your will probably find that the polarity of the wires is not marked, check with a meter before cutting.

I usually endorse Aldi electrical (Tevion) goods but this time.....DONT BUY IT !!!!!

i recently bought the none dvd version as a replacement for the RV bedroom TV, which i managed to destroy, and it is crap......apart from being 230v corded only (no option to check it instore and no 12v option) it has to have the slowest start up and channel change delay ever.

around 30 seconds delay from hitting the on switch to getting a picture, around 5 seconds to change channel and the volume is pathetic....only the first quarter of the volume slider scale does anything, above that the slider moves but nothing happens.
program info screen is so small you need binoculars to read it and the OSD is rubbish.

picture quality is good but the above points make it a very poor TV in my opinion.

Newbie!
If you end up buying a 240v TV that is 12v transformer supplied. I would really recommend adding the regulator. Maplins do one for just over £20.

I use one with the Curry's Essential TV/DVD combo (I've also add a HD full of movies), currently £99.99.

.

So for just over £120 (excluding the HD I've got attached), I've got a 12v TV, that is good enough for the MH.
