We are thinking of buying a small car as a runaround and insurance has come up with £1200 for a small matiz 796cc.
Can anyone help with better insurance than this, Comfort has given the reason that they only deal with motorhomes.
Have no, no claims as comfort doesn't give them and its been around 7 years since I last owned a car so the 60% i did have is now invalid.

I have a 2004 daihatsu charade which doubles as the family runaround and the toad when we are motorhoming. It insured through the NFU for £282.91. NFU also supplied a letter stating that the car is fully insured when being towed by my motorhome. The motorhome is insured with MHF facts insurance, previously Comfort.

Cricky that seems a bit steep I would have thought you would get quoted that with a DD on your licence, shop around there has got to be something much cheaper I would cough at £300.00 for that even with no no claims.

All the best Rick

Find someone who will mirror your van insurance if you have had no claims for the last so many years it should not matter that comfort do not use a no claims system they will still tell another insurer that you have been insured with them and had no claims for x years

i got the van insured through safeguard @ £630.00
and the smart insured with esure @ £300.00
although as you say with having no no-claims discount it puts you in the just past test boy racer insurance group.
some may insure you and give the no-claims discount you have on the van for a new car policy although you will need to supply them proof of discount given.

Seems mad that insurance on the van before fulltiming was £250 ayear on a 50 grand MH with full no claims, and on a £800 car it was £1200, where's the logic in that

Have had a few online quotes now the best being £330 from compare the market and moneysupemarket...
And I told them no, no claims and it was left overnight on a public street, there wasn't another choice in the drop down list.

SwiftCover are good and very very cheap http://www.swiftcover.com/ We have got two cars insured through them.

The Matiz (we had one for 8 years - excellent car) should be in about the lowest insurance category.

The only difficulty you might have with SwiftCover is whether they will accept you, because of full-timing?
