Looks like a good deal, but does anyone have experience with this decoder in particular on the move (ease of setting up regularly)?

Just a dim second question, is it only 12v powered as can't see another 230v connection point.

It is 12volts via a supplied 230volt transformer. On the move? once you set it up that's it. Astra dont move (much) :roflmto:

Ah ha, those Bush people are quite cunning. Didn't see whether the transformer came with it or not, don't think it was demonstrated in that interesting video either?

Going to dig a hole for myself here... nope, wont ask an even sillier question.

Maybe a picture will help? Mine is velcro'd to the wall and the remote works by pointing it at the ceiling. The power supply is in the plug nearest

Oh dear... your power supply is 230v into the tranformer? If so will a direct 12v supply work too?

Sorry

Yes I use both. Sometimes I need the 230 socket for something else and I use a 12 volt lead into either of the 2 12 volt skts

Bear in mind that you need a tv with an HDMI input to receive HD.
Connection via scart will work in SD only

2 things come to my mind

1: if you are using the 12 volt in by any other power sorce than the transformer, should you use a 12 volt stabalizer to ioen out any flucuations in the power supply?

2: would a better unit be one with a recorder so you have something to whatch on the days your parked near a big tree and xant get any satalite to lock on? even if you need to run one through a inverter to get power

i never used the 12v stabilizer with mine or the tv and never had any problems

is that a a tv or receiver? i hope its the tv because my tv has got got an external 240>12 volt tranformer and was under the impression I wouold need to stablaize a 12volt source if I wire it the leisure battery 12 volt line.

There is no purer source of DC than a battery, the DC from a cheap 230V AC - 12v DC is very rough ... ie it isn't a smooth DC. it is rectified AC.

The voltage from your leisure battery when fully charged is 12.6v .. and when 12v, effectively flat. (go below 12v and you shorten the life of the battery) This is well within tolerance of a 12VDc TV or Tuner ..

There is however a small risk when charging (ie on EHU) as the voltage can be as high as 14.4v .. hence the reason some advocate a 12v stabiliser .. but if you are concerned it is cheaper just to plug the TV into the mains socket with the supplied adaptor..

I have used both TV and Tuner on 12v with no stabiliser .. with no detriment to the kit..

the 3 12v tv's i have had and the 12v sat receivers have all been used with no stabilizer whether on just battery or 12v and ehu with the charger running, the tv i have now can run on anything from 12v to 25v or 240v
