Hi Jim

I think there are quite a few FUN members with iPads.

Is there any way that you know of that will enable us to go into chat or play games in the arcade.
I know the iPad does not support flash, but is there another way forward to use these facilities on fun without having to change (tablets)

I know there is something called HTML but I an definitely not a techie and need someone to explain in simple terms for a simpleton::bigsmile:Whether or not it will be possible to do these things with an iPad

Cheers in advance

I see Jim is not online. If anyone other Funsters know, please post
Lesley

Unfortunately, there probably isn't a workaround.

Not much consolation, but Adobe (who develop Flash) have announced that they're not going to develop Flash any further on mobile devices so eventually no new tablet devices will be able to use the current chat or games.

LIke you it is only the flash player

I can't think of a lot my iPad doesn't do.

I certainly haven't come across anything except the occasional Flash supported application.

I can live with that.

I have an IPAD and yes the flash player would be a bonus... but having used one for over a year now, I think they are great. Yes expensive, but it does what it says on the tin.

I was so impressed with Apple I then purchased an IPHON and that is far better than Blackberry which I had before it. I purchased from Apple and got it without being tied to any contract. I happen to use Vodaphone. But again it does what it says on the tin.

To make it worse for poor old Chris Green, I have now purchased a MacBook Pro 15" .. taking a bit of getting use to compared with the Dell's I use... still have three of them.. but it is the XP I miss the most. I have purchased the Mac version of word, powerpoint and excel etc., I could partition the drive and instal a windows 7 program, but for now I will stick with the Mac as it is.

It is very much horses for courses.... everyone has there own ideas of what is best.. but I do like the Apple products..expensive yes.

As mentioned above, it appears that Adobe have accepted that Flash does not have a long-term future and HTML5 (next generation web language) will provide the necessary functionality to kill it off. I use a Safari extension called 'Click-to-Flash' that prevents Flash running unless I click to allow it. An added advantage is that this forces Safari to look for an HTML5 version - e.g. on YouTube. However, I am using it on a MacBook Pro so that is not really relevant to your problem with the iPad. You might try a download called iSwifter that claims to enable flash games on iOS as used on iPads / iPhones.

the current chatroom is a flashplayer based product that is stable compared to the old one, has lots of facilities and addons. I really cannot see it being changed in the near future to another platform due to the cost of several hundred pounds. As Adobe will not support mobile devices there seems no way around it. End of story. Sorry Lesley.

I am torn between the ipad and samsung galaxy, after much deliberation , what fixed it for me was the fact that I already have an Itunes account with a lot of bought music on it and secondly, I've read from several different sources that iPad/touch/phone aps are all vetted by Apple for viruses before being allowed to download, to the contary any developer can launch an ap uncontrolled on Android and indeed many of hem do have viruses.
Having done all my research I will go for the iPad but it will be the iPad3 that by all accounts is due in the spring. :thumb:

i find it incredible, that people buy these ipads, without knowing what they can or cannot do,are they just buying the name regardless of the useability of these thing's???
or is it the must have mentality the apple relies on to sell there product??
ipads are good but there is far better out there at less cost:thumb:
apple products are overrated and over priced:Sad:
those in the know use android:thumb:
prove me wrong:Eeek:
sorry lesley it dont help you but????

A bit harsh there Chris, it is the spirit of Xmas...

You may dislike Apple, but Lesley was asking a serious question. She is happy with the product as are many others (I am not but thats another story).

Actually,

When I posted this, I knew that the apple haters would join in with, shall we just say remarks.

I did not buy the iPad without knowing its spec.
I am stupid, but not that stupid.:roflmto:

Just wondered whether there was any different options for using chat and playing games.

Not that I play games much.

I still love my iPad and I could mention some things that iPad can do that android cannot, but I can't be bothered. ::bigsmile:

Thanks for the replies.

I may buy the old man a MOTOROLA XOOM 2, just out, so I can borrow it occasionally.

since 2006 ( I think ! )
Bought a pair of 64g 3g iPads due to peer pressure ( yes I am weak ! ) and my honest opinions..

Love the fact I open it and its on.. no fiddling there then

Like a few of the apps, but not that many

It is bloody useless at everything I use a computer for from web page writing to wobbling about on fleabay ( fiddly in the extreme )

Am I glad I bought them ? Sometimes. And woman has been quiet as a mouse since she got hers as she uses it to play card games on ( nothing else at all .. that is its ONLY use )
And mine gets turned on if I wanna do some sudoku or want a really easy google lookup ( simply cannot be bothered doing more than simple stuff cos, as said, I find it all a bit fiddly and not really man enough to do what I want it to do )

Of course this thread was about Flash and the chat room etc..
Well Adobe never issued a version of Flash that works ( officially ) on Android either.. so unless you are going to go to a Windows based tablet there are always going to be issues..
And as said elsewhere, Adobe will be dropping the product completely in th every near future and fewer and fewer apps are going to require it

:thumb:
I have my compleat itunes libery,on my XOOM ,and all apps are scanned for viruses,
.a lot of disinformation out there about android products,

In short, iPads and iPhones are for those that love the build quality, RISK processors and overall superiority of Apple products. Yes, they do cost more than Windows based products, BUT if you can afford them then you buy them. After all, you would not buy a Swift if you could afford a £100k Burstner! I have an iPad, Iphone and a Mac Book Pro. Over 2k but worth every penny. Likewise my Leica V-Lux 30 not the Panasonic version - Quality cost

I`m a newbie
If people are happy to pay more for less and believe the hype, then good for them, let them buy Apple.
Me I would rather use my money on essentials etc, therefore i will stick with my quality android items.
Each to their own.
Quality does not HAVE to cost the earth!

Previous discussion thread Broken Link Removed FYI. :)

There are some 3rd party apps that claim to support flash on the iPad by converting the flash content, e.g. photon. Please note I do not have an iPad, so cannot confirm the claims that is works, but suspect if it does work it will be clunky and slow.
