Jim has put out a request for photos of members with their motorhomes "wildcamping" and Douglas, though very enthusiastic, posed a problem I thought worthy of a separate thread?

"What is wildcamping?" In its basic form I thought this was just when you stayed anywhere other than a recognised campting site or aire?
(But obviously a friend or neighbours driveway wouldn't count as wildcamping)
What are other people's definitions of "wildcamping?"

My definition as I see it, where we spend a day or two parked up not in anyones way or annoyance, off the beaten track.

I have seen long lists of wildcamping spots, but many of them are, in my opinion, not 'wild' camping, more like free parking:Smile: Think wilderness and that is what I strive for, think Asda car park and while i might stop overnight in one on route, I'm not going to base a holiday around it like some seem to.

Of course, there are not many true "wildernesses" left in Europe, but its amazing where people find to camp, many are truly wild. By a lake, a deserted beach carpark in winter, country lanes, river banks etc. With a bit of thought, and common sense it can be wonderful to be wild :thumb:

Sounds good to me, although as Jim rightly points out, that could include anything from an Asda car park to the top of a mountain.

So I suppose the word 'wild' can mean different things to different people. What is classed as wild to a 70 year old in a 30-foot A-Class with air-con and hot water on tap, might not seem so wild to a 26 year old in a VW Camper on a round the world trip

Ive worked with a lot of Romanian lads, they are buying up caravans like the are going out of fashion, because back there you can still truly wild camp. They just go and find somehwre nice (loads of places), by a lake for instance, they catch fish, cook them and eat them "not put back like you silly people", along with a few beers and family around them, they have alot of fun.
I have a DVD of some of Romania, we were arranging a trip there with landrovers, some absolutly stunning countryside where you can wild camp every night, you would just have to be very picky on routes with MH's.

For me Scandinavia above the Arctic Circle is one of the last true wild camping domains. Its possible to park up in the woods and watch dear and moose and all sorts of wild animals that are not seen anywhere else in Europe. There are log cabins provided by the local community and BBQs with wood also supplied. A great place for wilding in its truest form.

Just nattering to K about this. She says that it's as far away from an ASDA carpark as you can get. Or, for that matter, any other buildings, vehicles or people.

It's a bit more difficult with Rosie II but we've still managed to find some great spots in the Forest of Dean, Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons.

In the old Rosie I think we only ever stayed on sites for about three nights, including a week in the Highlands in winter, and a month travelling in France and Spain.

We head to where the road disappears and nature greets you. :thumb:

I dislike the term "wildcamping"

I don't think staying in an air-conditioned motorhome with central heating, hot and cold water to bathroom and kitchen and wall to wall carpets is "camping."

I always park "off site" (unless at a Funster Meet)

What is wild camping, well to me it is total independance in a motorhome parked in a place of my choosing for free. I'm not called wildman because I wild park apparently I am a freeloader who just get wild if I have to pay someone else for the privilage of stopping in my motorhome.
Maybe there should be a definition between free parking, off site parking, and genuine wild camping, i.e. motorhome setup for more than an overnight stay with awning table and chairs etc outside. There are many people who like myself like to keep moving, can't be bothered booking sites and most of all have to make a choice between paying for fuel to tour or site fees to stay put. As I am neither rich enough to pay for fuel and site fees nor am I fit enough to walk for miles exploring wherever I'm at then there is little choice for me. So I get wild if I have to pay, to me thats wild camping:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I woke up this morning here on Portugal's west coast just 40 kms north of Estoril...

No rules, no regulations, no fee, no neighbours to complain...

Off site camping as I know it...

For me it could be anywhere from a garage parking lot on the way to Spain, to a drive way offered by a friendly local, to a field, to.....

well Anywhere that is not a usual place for a motorhome to stop ( as in zero amenities ), has no hook up, and is free
