Hi All,

I'm coming down to London on Friday and wondered if there is a motorhome-friendly site either in London itself, or near to a train station or tube station that we can use to get into London.

It is really only to use as a base so we don't need any facilities just a place to park and sleepover. We don't need hook-ups or anything.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you pm philk, I visited him at a cracking site just last week, A few minutes from the tube, extremely secure and although it's in town you would never know it.

It is near Eltham / Greenwich and I just remembered it is called Abbey Wood.

Fabulous place.............Griff

ps You always come UP to London especially from Yaaarkshur

I trust you are OK with TFL emission controls etc.,

I trust your motorhome meets TFL (Transport for London) emission controls and will keep outside the charge area... Abbeywood is on the Kent side of London.. But not to far out from London.

It's a 2010 model so I'm assuming it should be fine. Am I assuming wrong? Hope not

Brilliant. They managed to squeeze me in for this weekend. The woman I spoke to was really pleasant and incredibly helpful.

So a double thanks to you for giving me the heads up on that one.

I look forward to going DOWN to London on Friday ::bigsmile:

We keep our van in the secure compound there.

The Wardens are very pleasant this year.

Wouldnt really recommend a stroll into Abbey Wood at night but the site is very pleasant/secure:thumb:

Just checked with the .gov site and we are compliant - yippee:thumb:

If anyone else needs to check here's the link:

Just put in your vehicle registration number and it tells you. Pretty cool!

I did call Lee Valley earlier, but got their answering machine. I left a message and they did call back. A nice friendly chap so I might look at that one another time as it is the right end of town for me.

I didn't know about the Debden House one so I will add that to my list for the future.

Thanks! And thanks for your nice PM :)

There is a site in central london that is good, a bit basic but i,m sure you wo'nt mind that. the wardens are a bit scatty, but the security is first class.
Its a busy site but has first class tansport links to all of london, there is a bus stop right outside the gate.
Its called st pauls cathedral, the code for MHF funsters discount is "protest", have fun.....oh, don't forget to take some Pinot Grigio, I hear they are having a fondue night soon.

Do they take motorhomes, or is it just tents, and could I get a hook up?

I hear the toilet facilities are not too good, but I can use the onboard one. I understand there's a church nearby so I'll be alright for the Sunday service.

I hope I get there in time for the fondue night :roflmto:

How do they work out if you are LEZ compliant?
Just checked our Winnebago LeSharo 1985 model and it is "not subject to LEZ".
I would have thought something so old would be, as it is an old engine and produces more emissions than the new engines!!!:whatthe::whatthe:

Hi Yorkieman,

You come off the M25 immediately after the tolls of the QE2 bridge , you approach Abbeywood through a very industrial area at the side of the Thames and because of this route and the fact it would be 6 pm, I didn't even consider LEZ. From the site, walk out and turn right then left, about 400 yards to the station. £7 buys you a return ticket to London Bridge or if the train is going to Canon Street, stay on it to over the river, turn left and you are in Westminster. The ticket includes all your underground if like us you are going to Camden market, which is fantastic, or moving round in London.
As for Abbey Wood at night, I walked out several times to shops and off licences, one night I was walking with a Russian guy selling EZ clean, a Gambian guy cleaning windows and a guy from Nigeria on his way to work. They seemed more concerned about me, maybe rumours about Northerners.

Arrived at Abbey Wood site last night. It is perfect. Just what we were looking for.

Getting into central London this mirning was a breeze. I did get us all a travel card. It worked out at thirty two pounds for four adults and a child! Which is great value.

And the walk to the station really is only five minutes at a leisurely pace, so that was easy.

A great recommendation, so thanks!

All i need now is a place to park the van in central London tomorrow as the kids want to stop off for more site seeng on the way back to Yorkshire. I doubt there is anywherenthat will take a seven meter MH.
