Anyone know what dried dog foods are available in Spain? Nix is currently on Harringtons which will presumably not be available (or will be extortionately priced as an import). Don't really want to carry 5 months supply with me (even if payload would stand it), so can anyone recommend a Spanish alternative?

>> Dog food in Spain?

Well yes, but I think they prefer a good beefsteak. Probably OK in a tapas.

Not sure about Spain but the majority of the big supermarkets in Belgium, Germany and Austria when I was over there stocked the usual popular dry foods - Purina, Pedigree and the dreaded Iams so you should find something. If your dog is that particular then I'd at least stock up on a few bags before you go

You'd be OK through France as all the supermarkets have own brands plus branded ones.

Places like Jardiland, Gamm Vert etc.. also have a pet dept with posher brands but higher prices even for regular stuff.

If you don't get an answer you can pm me and I can find out via an ex pat forum for you.

She's not allowed to be particular, but I'd only change her food very gradually to avoid an upset stomach. I'll take a few bags of Harringtons with me and gradually mix in any new food.

I had 2 with very easily upset stomachs but I was lucky enough to find a food that suited them in Fressnapf which is Germany's 'Pets at Home'.:thumb:

Thank you Holly. Nix isn't on a premium brand but I'd like to get her a reasonable quality mid-range food while I'm in France & Spain.

Thank you - I'll keep a lookout for that one.

We have been in Carrefor in Santa Suzanna today and they sell Pedigree and lots of other mixes, including Friskies? I think. We have found that the pet shops in Spain carry a lot of variety of dried food, most is more expensive than UK. Our dogs prefer Butchers and we try to bring enough to last, but as you say 6 months is a long time and a lot of dog food.

Hi Maz,

We live in France and we have found that Lidl here do a 10kg bag of dried dog food for €6.79. It's called Orlando (no, not imported from Florida) and comes in a red bag. Mutley seems to appreciate it when there is no steak or left over chicken in his bowl !!
Sorry, but am not aware if Lidl in Spain have the same product.

kind regards,
offwego

Allowing for Nix needing more food per day as she grows, I've worked out that I'd need to carry about 75kg of food with me! :Eeek:

is your dog on that particular food for a reason? or is it just what you decided was best for it
In both france and spain they sell dry dog food, moist dog food and tinned food, You will find specialist dog foods at either large pet stores or vets at premium prices, with supermarkets selling most of the common brands of food.
just check the label on your dogs current food (ingredients/additives) and buy one with the same or as near as the same stuff in.

She was on Harrington's when I got her and seems to do well on it and it's reasonably priced. I just want to find out what's available and what other dog owners recommend.
