since 2006 ( I think ! )
We bought a Cello at Lincoln show.. VERY pleased with it.. Viewing angle is virtually anywhere, very low current draw, built in DVD player ( and of course digital tv ) and with the addition of a small memory stick the ability to record programmes ( even if the tv is on standby ) and pause live tv

Avtex is now consigned to the kitchen at home !

I bought a Tesco special for £100.
15 1/2 inch led TV/DVD, excellent picture in both modes.
Chop off the mains power supply and replace with a cigarette lighter type plug.
The TV is originally 12 volt but is converted for mains :Eeek:

Avtex L185DR - not cheap but probably the best :thumb:

Errr def not any more I am afraid..
As said, ditched my Avtex in favour of the Cello.
Clarity is considerably better and the receiver several dB more sensitive .. As a bonus the Cello controller also works the Sky box.. and of course the Cello has only 60% current draw of the Avtex.

The Cello comes in sizes from 15" to 24" ( I went for the 24" at £260 )

For a long time the Avtex were indeed the best out there and that was reflected in the price..
As word spreads about the Cello range I can see the Avtex prices taking a bit of a dive ! ( though it wil lproly take a long time to happen as they are great televisions still and I suspect they will soon catch up with the new LED second generation technology used by Cello and one or two other companies )

Bought the small Cello(£179.99) at Lincoln on the Sunday. Took it back the following Wednesday. Not impressed with the sound quality and you had to be sat smack bang in front of it to view clearly. Cubik Products had no issue in giving me a refund, remarking that the set could only accommodate small speakers, hence the sound quality.

You get what you pay for ! I will now be buying the Avtex:thumb:

By just cutting the end off and replacing with a cigarette lighter you open the unit up to the risk of voltage spikes as batteries do not offer a stable supply, especially when charging or attached to a generator.

To avoid this, use a voltage stabiliser such as an amperor - they cost around £30 and will iron out and ptotect the set against any anomolies!

for op; Most 'average' size LCD tv's are 12v - check the back when purchasing. These will do everything a £600 dedicated camper set will do. But DO purchase a voltage stabiliser that will replace the power lead for the reasons above. These sets are available from £80 to £150 widely in most supermarket chains and make a good cheap alternative. The voltage stabiliser as already stated is around £30.
