Looking for a bit of advice on the MCC in particular.

We joined the CC when we bought our van 5 years ago and had much less knowledge of facilities available. We have used a number of their sites over the years but now find that they are expensive and, whilst the cost can be justified by the facilities available, we don't really need those facilities as we have them on board. We have also used CL sites and intend doing so more often in future.

We joined the C&CC this year as we had been told about their meets and, especially, Temporary Holiday Sites which usually do not have to be booked in advance (unlike the CC). We haven't used them as much as we would have wished, for a number of reasons, but certainly intend doing so in future - including later this month. We've also used a couple of CSs, and will continue to do so, but are unlikely to use main sites for the same reasons as above.

At the Lincoln Show we thought about joining the MCC for their meets & CLs but, in talking to other Funsters, had conflicting reports.

We like the Fun style "do your own thing and join in only if you want to" approach and don't really want to get involved with meets where everyone is expected to do take part in organised events. Having said that, we are looking forward to what promises to be some daft fancy dress at the C&CC meet we intend going to in a few weeks, just don't want to be expected to at every one.

What do people think?

Not managed to get out much, Graham, but never had any probs with the C&CC. Always very friendly and welcoming to me and hope to support them a bit more this coming year.

Carol and Eddie are in the MCC and I believe love the meets they have been to and have met some lovely people there... but I am sure Carol will come on and tell you herself of their experiences.

I agree with you ... it is important that if you want to stay in and have an early night reading then you shouldn't feel pushed into socialising.... I love my own company a lot of the time (and the dog's of course)::bigsmile:

every organisation is different some are regimented others not, they all tend to become what the members want. Some people join to be regimented, other join fun to make their own choices. The only real reason to join any of the other organisations is for access to the certificated 5 van sites. Other organisations also have them, some more than others.
Fun has enough meets to keep anyone occupied so if I wanted to join another club I would just go for one with the most/cheapest 5 van sites.

Been in all 3 clubs for years now, but we are thinking of giving up the Caravan Club, mainly because the rally's have to be booked in advance. and sometimes get the feeling that Motorhomes are not as welcome as caravans.

We feel being in one club at least gives us a reasonable amout of CL's and if CCC has a rally, especially the holiday rally somewhere we want to be at least we can just turn up.

MCC, they have a good system of safe knights but also run some really good rally's that you can just turn up at, and they along with FUN rally's give you some good holidays at very reasonable cost. We find them to be friendly, we use them all over the country and have yet to use our local one, always made to feel welcome.

My order of preference: 1. FUN
2. MCC
3. CCC

Sure you will get different opinions but thems mine.::bigsmile:

CC - Joined for 1 year. Never used any sites as they were always showing as booked online. The hassle of pre- booking for any rallies also put me off. All they seem to do was bombard me with post, advertising etc.. Trying to sell me something.

CCC - We joined last year but just not fitted in any rallies with them or used any sites. However it looks a better proposition than CC as the holiday sites and non bookable rallies appeal.

MCC - Been in for years and do lots of rallies. I think the regional group you visit can make a difference as some seem to be better than others. Had some great weekends, in-expensive and good locations... BUT dont judge by individual rallies, eg.. visited the Avon group several times and been very welcomed, this year went to Bath and was ignored like lepers !!! Dont think it was intentional just that all the others were mates and no one on the commitee bothered to think about visitors that weekend. A one off...
GO ON JOIN and then come to the North West Midlands and North Wales group...
WERE ANIMALS.............:ROFLMAO:

So sorry have never joined the MCC. We joined the caravan club which was a waste of time. C & CC is ok if you regulary use their sites but we dont and for the slight difference in charges we have saved over the last 2 years.

To be quite honest with motorhome fun, you join in if you want to and you stay totally solitary if that is your wish - the only proviso is that - if when people are walking down the long line of motorhomes saying hello good morning good afternoon good evening are you joining us for ??????? because theres always something going on - as long as you make your wishes known - they are always respected by those who know - and theres nothing stopping you saying - I want a quiet funster weekend can you stick me at the farthest point of our area as I dont want to be disturbed - and dont worry no one will say anything because you would not have been the first person to do so. If we go to a funster meet during school term time, for our son we are probably the most unsociable funsters you could meet. He is sent to bed at normal time and we do not emerge until he is snoring for england and then we go back and regularly check

hope that helps

Caravan club, was a member, excellent sites...too good to camp on, wardens and site staff all trained by MI6, and have had RADA training to show them how to talk to MH owners through clenched teeth::bigsmile:

C&CC, nice people, good sites especially the CS, ALSO the Forest sites, I like them especially.

MHF not been to any rally's yet, but if they are like the site, should be OK.

MCC sounds (and looks) a bit like joining the Jaguar Owners club.......your choice:Doh:

Ive had my fill of clubs over the years, once a club becomes an entity in its own right, it can hide a raft of nasties. All the better to keep a loose gang of mates sort of voting on where to go etc, and obtaining help when needed.....no meetings, no committee's, no bleddy rules:roflmto:

New to it all!
We are very new motorhomers. Mr Bill has taken to it like a duck to water, but I am still not completely convinced. We joined the Caravan Club and have used a few of their sites. Everyone we have met has been really friendly, including the wardens. At around £20 a night it's not as cheap as we would like, but I am still pouting about being away with no hairdryer so am not that keen to venture too far from an EHU!!!

We have stayed "in the wild" - Tintern Abbey Car Park, Stratford on Avon Coach Park, and in the field at the Shepton Mallet Show (Mr Bill was very upset when the bar ran out of real beer on the Saturday night!). For us at the moment, it's only weekend use, and we don't really want to drive for hours to get anywhere.

We didn't join the C&CC or the MCC as you can't join everything at once.

No point to my post really, but never mind.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We are in all 3 .
We have been out with the ccc mostly though on rallies meets temp holiday sites etc.
We actually joined the MCC a couple of weeks ago at Hawes cattleground. Its only £6 extra a year. You dont have to join , you can just turn up. But as we have just turned up a few times now, and found it friendly and not too pushy , we joined.
That way if a rally is canceled you get a call to inform you. You also get to know when and where the meets are.

I suppose as with all clubs you get people who love to organize and arrange things
along with people who like to be organized and have their weekend arranged . CC, CCC, MCC are no different.
We personally dont like bingo , and those games they do with everyone having a playingcard...Preferring just to chat and mingle have a glass or three.
So if ever someone jumps up with a clip board and starts saying right ( ting ting ting on a glass ) we are going to play ....
We make a quick exit. Blaming having to check on kids or dogs.:roflmto:

If we have been talked about afterwards , for always doing it i dont know.

Sometimes we dont even go into the meet rooms depending on what we've done through the day. Its nice just cosying down to read or watch a film sometimes. If ever there is a walk arranged were up for that , and we always have a walk about the site weather permitting , having a chat to other members here and there.

Most importantly saying thankyou to who ever has marshaled it , before leaving.

Many thanks to all who have replied. I think we'll probably stay as we are for now but maybe join the MCC as well next year.

I think we are unlikely to use main sites in future (though have always received a friendly welcome from CC wardens) purely because we don't need the excellent facilities that the extra charge covers. Instead we will use CLs/CSs (without EHU when possible but with EHU in the winter) plus intend going to more C&CC Meets & THSs (we might have been at Hawes, having attended our first MCS meet the previous week at York, but we were at Lincoln with Fun).
