I'm looking to buy a new lappy .. budget around £600 ish

I've ruled out another Mac on the basis that I can get as good if not better spec for half the money with a Windows machine, also been using windows 7 for the past couple of weeks and I'm impressed how good it is..

So, it is really down to which make.. with a minimum of Intel i5 processor, 4 gb ram and 500gb hard drive.. 15 inch screen ... not interested in BluRay or playing games ..

I like Sony and Dell .. but would like to hear the experts choices and advice .. frankly my head is spinning reading reviews .. so over to you guys

I have just bought a new Lenovo IDEAPAD Z370.i5.13.3 inch screen fits nicely in the front dash locker, my old 15 inch wouldn't fit.
It has face recognition on it so if it does gets stolen no-one can use it and they take a picture of the culprit.
EXCELLENT PIECE OF KIT WITH intelligent battery lasting 6 hours.
free starter microsoft office 2010 ( limited to word and excel) as long as you dont mind the adverts, and 2 months free mcafee with a shredder to shred your sensitive files.
And a one key rescue system, havent used it yet,(the one key) and dont wish to as my other packard bell gave up the ghost on me!!!
Did buy a sony but found it didnt have an optical drive and I needed one, so had a refund for that one.
forgot to mention , it has Win 7, 64 bit.

I'm in the same boat as it looks my 2 yr old Toshiteba is about to be read the last rites and I wouldn't touch another one with a very long bargepole. I've been looking at Dell or HP so will keep an eye on this post :thumb:

I've had an HP laptop for a few years absolutely brill. I am on my ex's Toshiba laptop now also brill. My partner has a basic packard bell laptop also ok. I think you get more for your money by staying away from Sony. Having said that my son has the top Sony laptop which is amasing but with sony you pay for what you get. If the spec is what you are looking for then dont be put off by the name. They are all pretty good but have a good look at the screens they do sometimes let a good spec unit down.

I previously mainly had HP's, but in the last couple of years I have bought Acer laptops.

We now have 3 in the household, and never had a problem with any of them. been very pleasantly surprised.

My current one has i3 inside with 3Gb ram and 500 Gb HD.

It also has HDMI, out so I can play direct to the TV at home or in the van with HD quality. The battery lasts 6 hours on mine, and my wife's 13" Acer netbook battery lasts 8 hours.
Very useful when travelling. :thumb:

Wife and daughter both have Packard Bell laptops and seem very happy with daughter using hers for open univ. course work, and wife who is semi disabled so uses it all the time so they get quite a bit of work and so far without trouble.

They are both running Windows 7, 64bit

DELL....

But from the outlet...

That's what I did and would do again.

The refurbs are new...they get them back and put them through the production process to QA them and sort ANY issues so they are as new.

Some haven't even been sent out, but are cancelled orders that have already been made to - usually - an enhanced spec.

Ken if only, had my Toshiba Satilite just over 3 years paid over £1000 for it, 2 weeks ago it just let out a series of beeps and died, the gaurantee had just run out, got on to toshiba and they wanted £80 just to look at it, then took it to our local computer man, said no way could he get parts easy and it looked expensive anyway so now its in the attic. After looking around on E Bay and various other places bought a Fujitsu from a dealer called Dabs for £279. it has 4gig hard drive / intelpentium /Green IT / blue tooth as well as a HDMI socket operating on windows 7. Early days yet but does everything and a lot more than I can unerstand. And at £279, I will not have such a big hissy fit if this goes wrong.

Just over a week ago I bought a new laptop from Tesco, an HP G6 1155sa, i5 2410 processor, it only cost me £389 less £10 (voucher), less £7.98 in points x 3 (use the on Eurotunnel) so that brought it down to around £355 - they're now back up to full price so I got an absolute bargain! My brother got one too as he was also looking for a nice quality laptop which didn't cost the earth. They do a variety of colours and I would have loved to have got a purple one but the offer one was only in silvery/grey, which looks very nice too.
