Hopefully heading over to France in 3 weeks. Thinking of heading to the Loire area possibly vendee.

Can you recommend some aires in nice locations that are safe for a young family.

We spent a couple of nights at La Rochelle aire number2 ideal if you want to visit the town it cost 10euro but that includes your bus fare and use of the small river/bay taxi as often as you like for 24hours.

I know its not an aire but the municipal campsite at Royan was really nice and only 5 min walk from a lovely beach so kids would love that.

There is also an aire at ayre just outside la rochelle and right next to a beach, its just behind the campsite les sable (spelling)

This is a really useful site (in French)
http://www.campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm

First click on the central logo, then on the next page, select "chercher/ajouter une aire" on the left hand side.

We use this as our principal source for locating aires. The POIs can be downloaded for the SatNav.

St Clements DES levees (think that's spelt correctly) is a lovely free aire right on the edge of Loire. Lovely walks and a small bar and bakery just across the road. Free to stay but the services are a short drive in to the village but easy to get to.

Hi Stacetop. We are going to Loire next saturday but won't be back in time to give you much info not back til 21st , but it seems to me looking t the aires section that there's plenty of aires long Loire (not sure about childrens suitability) Turquant aire has a park and play area right next door also several vineyards to purchase wine been here twice before quite nice free but small charge for water. I will try to get some more info back to you as and when. Terry

We also travelled down the Loire, stayed on some free aires and very nice ones too.
Sully Ser Loire was a beautiful chateu with a free aire just down the side there is a road and takes about 15 motorhomes, free water and empty point, no EHU and a nice quaint old village with a market.
