Not very secure but oh so handy. I use it but not for anything sensitive.
Still nothing our there with the same feature set for me so I will be sticking with it.

It's probably more secure than most people PC's Absolutely nothing is safe on line, the pentagon, the MOD, all the banks etc get hacked most days

I do keep some sensitive files my dropbox but they are encrypted enough to thwart all but the most determined. Otherwise its just stuff like photos, and projects I don't want to lose and enjoy the access across a range of machines.

I don't worry about the non sensitive stuff, but do encrypt anything that is sensitive before it goes on there to sync.

Skydrive from Microsoft is a similar solution and more secure if anyone wants an alternative. You can also set that to keep folders on different machines synchronised without actually storing it on the cloud. Does Mac and PC as well, just not Android etc from what I have seen.

There are several methods out there.

The one I personally use is a program called Truecrypt. It can do full disk encryption or create containers for encryption.

That is not true Brian, its not a person that goes looking but a program that can work 24/7 and at speed.

Slim yes, but you still shouldn't put really sensitive info in their without a bit of encryption. I use it extensively with my writing (how I earn a living) A snapshot of my work is taken automatically every 30 minutes and stored in drop box. (most times the snapshot is the same as the last ) This way I can roll back as far as I like, which is why I needed all that extra space.

There are loads of off line backup solutions but none have the sheer ease of use as drop box, ie not asking me for a 32 character password every time access it. So I suppose their is a small security trade off for that, but for a free fast offline backup, the service is superb.

Worst case is a plonker who keeps his bank details there together with passwords.

Guess what I uploaded ! All my passwords. But only the likes of FUN passwords. I've 2 full A4 pages of the damned things.

Thankyou, that's what my OP was about, to let those who are using Dropbox know that it has security issues and not to upload sensitive items.
