I'm heading to Cornwall tomorrow, never been in my life. We have a week in Redruth, a few days in Tintagel and then I'm heading down to a site about 2 miles outside Marazion. I fancy seeing the naff tourist hot spot that is Lands End - is there parking for inconsiderate gits like me driving 25ft MH's or is that best avoided?

Have fun, id rather go to Scotand where they dont rip you off for parking you can see further than the sides of the road theres more than one road in so you dont queue all day to get somewhere and theres less people i think you can tell i dont like the place

Lands End?

By fairly popular opinion, an overpriced complete and utter rip off and waste of time.

Don't say you wasn't warned.....

What site are you staying on near Marazion?
Are you a member of the C&CC?
If so, there's an excellent CS near Marazion - Trescowe Meadows

must be on the same hymn sheet as me.. :winky:

A once lovely place ruined by a greedy land owner ....I wouldn't go near it, even if parking was free ..

We went to Cornwall in May, great no crowds:thumb: We stayed at Trevaylor Caravan and Camping Park at Botallack near St Just. Like you we wanted to see Lands End as we had never been, We got the coastal bus (open top) to Sennen Cove and walked along the cliffs to Lands End. A great walk spoilt by the tacky tourist trap that is lands end, walked around for 15 min then headed back along the cliffs instead of waiting to catch the bus, but at least we can say we have been.

I love the way you have so many replies giving opinions on the place, but none that answer the question. :ROFLMAO:

now that you know you are a complete idiot to want to go anywhere near the place...

We go to Sennen regularly as we have friends that live here, but we only went to Lands End by car once, and then we stuck to a coastal walk as the attractions were closed.

As far as I recall there was no reason why a decent sized motorhome could not park comfortably. I am sure they get coaches there full of foolish tourists who did not take the precaution of asking advice from a funster, so a motorhome should be fine.

Enjoy yourself

David

In fact we have answered the 2nd part of the question...... which was "Is it best avoided?"

Land's End is a big rip off!

You'd be better off driving to Cape Cornwall, or The Lizard and Kynance Cove, for spectacular Scenery, and on a wild day! Old Mother Nature at it's best:thumb:
If you're following Arthur, you might want to take a look at Doze Mary Pool, that was where Excalabre was got rid of , lady's hand catching it etc, try it yourself, all you need is an old knife

give it a go :thumb: You never never know:whatthe:

Pendennis Castle in Falmouth is worth a trip, big car park, don't have to go in the Castle, but a walk around the Moat is worth while just for the view, takes about 10 to 15 minutes, longer if you leave the Moat at the Coastguard place, and go down to the Point for an Icecream:thumb:Once again the scenery is spectacular!

And for the Knocker! Kernow Bys Vecken!

2nd part of question was 'is that best avoided' meaning do I not take my van and find other ways of getting there. I'm not interested in the tourist tat or getting my photo taken with a signpost I just wanted to see the place because it's Lands End

There is a big car park, you can get an idea if you look on google maps. It was two thirds empty in May, what it will be like in August I don't know.

No argument .. it is.. :thumb:

the knockers, including me, were talking about Lands End or more specifically , it's commercialisation ..

Dad first took us there camping in the early 50s , and on a motorbike and side car .. I've been many times since but it's not like it used to be.. IMO .. best avoided in the peak season

I agree, Cornwall is fantastic, most of the comments are relating specifically to Lands End and the availability of Motorhome parking.

Is ANYWHERE like it used to be? NO!
Cornwall is great even in August - we always manage to avoid the crowds!
We'll be down there in a couple of weeks at St Blazey Gate for about 3 weeks - using our wrinkley passes on the buses :winky::winky:

Lands End has to be done - no problems with the car park - we've been there in our van in August - plenty of space!
OK it's been commercialised but take a walk along the cliffs and it's still a stunning place!:thumb:

Other places where parking a motorhome is not a problem - The Lost Gardens of Heligan near Mevagissey and The Eden Project near St Austell.

The open top bus from Penzance to Lands End and St Ives via lots of little villages is very good value on a nice day - especially when it's free with your wrinkley pass :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Takes about 3½ hours to do the complete trip and if you get an early bus you can get off at various places - have a wander then get the next bus. :thumb:

Get down there and enjoy it is what I say - yes it was idyllic in the 1950's and 60's but everywhere has changed and in some cases for the better, even in Cornwall!

If I remember rightly apart from teh rip off that is Lands End I think it cost a fiver to allow you to have your photograph taken under the sign. Been going to Cornwall for 15 years probably about 6 times a year and only been to Land's End twice and the second time was to remind me that I shouldnt have gone the first time
