Hi guys …forgot to mention this, when I was at the shrewsbury show this year.

Last september at shepton mallet. I bought a generator off one of the trade stands, who sell new and s/hand generators, they also sell solar lighting, bulbs and fittings etc. anyway, bought this brand new all singing all dancing key start/remote start generator, paid £650.00. For it, with 12 month guarantee, the chap told me that I would have to get a battery for the second key fob, as he dident have one for it…so recently I went to buy a battery, opened up the remote key fob to fit the battery and to my surprise. it was never gonna work. the innards of the key fob were all gungded up with glue….so when I went to shrewsbury, I happened on the guy that sold it to me…and i told him. I wasent happy with it as it was never gonna work, (which I believe he already knew that when he sold it to me.) politely he said, try somebody that does remote control fobs, I cant help you, … is this guy a total scumbag or what…I thought these trade shows would keep these sort of scumbags out…

I think for only £650 you would probably know you were getting Chinese tat and have to take the consequences :winky:

Had it been a Honda, well we all know the answer BUT I understand your decision based on economics although you have to factor in the risks that go with these kind of goods :thumb:

I did when I bought my Kipor generator :winky:

Smudger being very disabled confined to a wheelchair needs an electric start genny.

Price and Honda snobbery doesn't come into it.

He wanted and was sold a remote start genny from a trader at the shows.

Excuse me, snobbery doesn't come into it, I'm talking about you get what you pay for and the Chinese rubbish about is clearly not the same standard, I KNOW, I have a Kipor and took the calculated risk, price v quality and amount I would use it, and where would I get spare parts into account.

Please don't have a go with the disabled card, it's pathetic, what I said was the truth and you know it :winky:

Read what RoadRunner said Swift - ok yes it is a chance but if the OP needs a remote control genny and nobody with a 'name' makes one - what's the bloke sposed to do, do you suggest?

Don't keep telling him to buy a brand name when it's already been explained in very plain English why he didn't.

I'm not saying he is, I was replying to someone else, just because you are disabled doesn't mean you don't have a brain and can't make calculated decisions. I have just got back up and walking after 11 months and a double leg operation, still undergoing physio, so don't tell me what it's like to be unable to walk. I was amazed at peoples attitudes, even when in Tesco's in my wheelchair treating me like I was stupid :winky:

Where does it explain all this in his opening post

All I am saying is you pay your money and you take your chance, if you want to deal with a man on a market stall so be it, and if a reliable company don't make them maybe there is a reason :thumb:

I don’t think you understand what I,m saying…there is nothing wrong with the generator, it is in perfect working order, and is doing the same job as any other genny on the market…whether it be Honda or not….my post was about the service I received from a trader, and not about the make of the genny, as I said in my post, I believe he knew the key fob was faulty…and further more it is not about playing the disabled card, I stick up for my self and always have done matey…and anything I got I worked bloody hard for …and I don’t need to hide behind brand names ….if I want a Honda I will buy one…but I don’t for my own reasons, and by choice.

I hate to disagree with fellow Funsters but when general statements are made by people who are not fully in the picture and these are then cited as law I sometimes get a bit miffed.

Smudger's decision was NOT based on economics... our Smudger, while never being flash with the cash, does not have to make cheap purchases for economic reasons.

He wanted an electric start genny and the fact that it came with a couple (sic) of key fobs meaning that he could start it without having to get down from his motor home to do so formed the basis for his purchasing decision.

Honda (surprisingly) do NOT make an electric start genny. If someone wanted an electric start genny with a remote start key fob they can not get a Honda (of that size) :restmycase:

JJ

Did I read that someone has suggested that Smudger would play "the disabled card"? Unbelieveable. This is really too much to bear. Anyone who knows Smudger... and many do... know that he is the last man in world that would do that... the suggestion has made me really cross...:Angry::Angry:

Shame you are so far away! Have a look at the remote and let me know what frequency it runs at.

Do I take it you have one fob working already? Is it infrared or radio? You can see infra red by looking at the 'light' through an old piece of camera film or a filter if you have one.

If it is infra red, you are cooking of gas! I know of a clever little trick that will cost a pound and a few minutes, and will replace the fob - although a little unorthodox...but would save you money! Will puzzle your friends too!:ROFLMAO:

Smudger, don't get me wrong, I am on your side, I bought a Kipor, but I knew the risks that if it went wrong i would be pretty stuffed, I bought it off ebay, more of a risk than you from someone you could perhaps trace and in fact did. My point is this Chinese stuff comes in by the container load, no doubt there will be some dodgy ones in amongst it, but how would he know? As he was a 'market' trader you had nowhere else to go, that is my point, from what you say the remote came with it, so that in effect is a risk to take into account, what if the remote fails, in your case it didn't even start, but maybe he didn't know and didn't have a spare, therefore referred you to a remote specialist

I don't know the time frame between sale and speaking with him, but you would have hoped you would have some consumer rights, but these diminish when you deal with market traders rather than a shop. I have posted on a thread in the last few days about my Kipor, the fact that it is made with cheap metal and requires a little bit more TLC than a better made brand, but I can live with that and that was my choice :thumb:

Anyway, good luck with it, hope to meet up with you some day to exchange gennie stories ::bigsmile:

I'm not pulling a disabled card, I have been there done that and been shocked, I am on my way to recover, but what it has taught me is that people think disabled people are mentally disabled the way they treat you.

Anyway, I have said my bit, I'm off to start the Kipor to make a cup of Tea :ROFLMAO:

This is silly chaps...

Smudger was misled by a trader who said a key fob needed a battery when it was actually totally useless... when approached the trader was off hand and Smudger posted about it as a warning to others...

Personal insults are not welcome on Fun...
