Heiki Rooflight won't stay open (1 Viewer)

Originall the Heike Rooflight in our Eldis Sunseeker 100 stayed open perfectly.

Now it will not stay open at the fullest extent, I guess the vacuums or whatever in the side stays have failed or something. There doesn't appear to me to be any way of adjusting the tension or whatever in these stays.

Does anyone have any ideas.:Cool:

You need the term "gas struts".

They can be mega expensive. Look for a specification on the strut and hunt places like ebay for replacements.

same problem on my last van.

worked fine last year but preping to sell and it wouldnt stay up.

dont know how they operate (fluid/air/friction) but i tried drilling a very small (1mm) hole in the top of the strut and injecting oil......made no difference, it just leaked out the bottom.

i reckon replacement struts are the only answer.....which means removing the heki to get the strut pins out oh:

Piston inside and compressed gas. Sealed for life.

I know one model has a release valve, so you install it and let gas out until it has just the right push, let too much out and you get to buy another.

It's amazing that the seal will hold the seriously high pressure gas for years.

must be a self contained gas cartridge inside the casing as, what i thought was the seal at the bottom of the strut, wouldnt hold oil...let alone gas.

looking at your diagram, mine must have been well buggered !

as fast i injected oil in at the top, it just pi&&ed out the bottom.

We had the same problem on our newly purchased motorhome, the company who sold us is replacing both the struts, sounds like it could have been expensive if we hadn't noticed it early on.

Mines the same. Any idea how to take them off . They look as though they're pressed in without nuts
