Noticed quite a big crack in my windscreen yesterday about 5 inches long. I presume my insurance will cover it but I have a £500 excess:cry:

Problem is I am off to Spain in 8 days.

Does anyone know whether the likes of Autoglass carry these sort of screens? I have a A class Burstner Aviano with quite a big screen.

I rang my dealer in Norfolk and he has one in stock but told me I would need to go via my insurers as it was horrendously expensive to replace.

Am I likely to get this sorted in 8 days?

Does a windscreen claim affect your NCD when you re-insure?

probably depends on your insurers.

NFU treat all glass replacement as car glass, even RV screens, and doesnt affect your NCB.

your excess will probably increase though.

i had a new screen on the toad and the excess went up from £50 to £75 at renewal.
insured with Post Office insurance at the time.

Hhmph! The car windscreen has gone for the 2nd time in 18 months. I didn't even think to declare it when we renewed last year and now we're coming up for renewal again.

Is it preventing you from safely negotiating the roads?
If not, sort it out later, at your leisure.

No it doesn't affect me at all it is bottom left by the tax disc.

Don't fancy it getting worse though in Spain and messing up my hols.

There has been a crack in our windscreen (the same place as yours) for about five years.

It slowly makes its way south-east, avoiding the MOT-critical area.

I would say ignore it for the near future and sort it out when you come home.

Have you thought about one of these companies that seal chips in the windscreen, they grind out the chip and inject a resin, might just work with a crack to stop it spreading

Since 1974 on and off
Bus / Coach companies have the Windscreen drilled at the end of the crack which generally stops it spreading, thus putting off the need for replacement until other damage is accumulated.

My Friend had Autoglass Specials, their dedicated motorhome service, do theirs. They have their own separate website. Recommended by insurers. Hope it helps.
