I am looking to enter the modern era by putting away my maps and highlighter pens and buying a sat nav.
Funds are fairly limited after having to pay for my damp repairs. So any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks

I have a tom rom xxl bought after loads of research.

I didnt want a monthly subscription
or upadates on traffic

This model is great...all of europe and a large screen
also speed trap alerts....very useful and good value at £118
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/2520/tomtom-xxl

and really like it ..........but dont totally put away your maps
use it in conjuction with maps to get the best out of it .

Its great but not perfect..

I have not updated the maps......on purpose
but have added various POIs.

Since 1974 on and off
I was recommended the tom tom with the larger screen and have found it to be easy to use and I thought good value.

By all means buy the satnav, but don't throw away the only means you have of checking to see what mistakes it's making.

Know the feeling Ray, I use Google maps on a smart phone and check out maps before going away. Works well but is expensive if using abroad as you have to have a 3G signal and use data minutes.
Borrowed a TomTom last year when we went to Germany (borrowed the motorhome as well) and it was great. You can download a list of Aires and Stellplatz straight into the unit which is very handy. (I expect you can do that with other makes too).
If you don't want live traffic I find RAC traffic on the smartphone useful, although it can be a bit slow to update, and it's free.
Happy travelling:thumb::thumb:
