Finally got around to ringing a few garages about replacing my cam belt and I've just been asked if I want the tensioners replacing at the same time? I haven't got a flippin clue so do I or not. Been quoted £240 + vat for everything

Not a mechanic myself, but when our cam belt was replaced so were the tensioners. Our water pump was also checked at the same time.

Brisey.

Only other quote so far has been a rough estimate of 4 hours work @ £46 an hour and he doesn't know how much for the belt etc. Other quote is from a motorhome place. I was waiting until I went up to Lancaster as had a quote of £199 but add in the diesel from here (Midlands) and it's probably no cheaper

It may be worth your while giving Geo a call at Pecks Hill Garage, Mansfield. I can vouch for the quality of their service.

I'm looking for somewhere a bit more local. I only have a week before I head south

It's a Fiat Ducato 2.8 TD[/QUOTE)

you will need to change the belt, top idler pully, and the tensioner.
£240 is a dam good price if that includes parts and labour?
i would have it, that price does not include OM parts?

I always recommend belt, tensioners and pupm when doing cam belts. If you don't, and they fail then the whole lot needs doing again.

Do it right, do it once - although we are trade, so get a discount, the complete works with genuine parts was £168 - so around £200-220 in normal prices.

Local? Local to where?

Local is currently just outside Hinckley, Leics. Another quote has come in at around £270 inc vat but that's in Evesham. The mechanic next door to the site said he wouldn't want to do it as he didn't want the responsibility if something went wrong!! Doesn't give me much faith in his abilities
