No wonder some people dont bother........I am in east sussex and I just rang around to see how much it would cost to visit a weighbridge.

The cost varied between 15- 26 pounds......I am thinking thats a bit steep.

I know its cheaper than being found over weight......anyone know any free ones
or should I adapt the bathroom scales :)

We paid about £6 at a local builders merchants in Middlesbrough for a handwritten note of the weights. It would have been about double that for a certificate.

I don't know what part of East Sussex you are located, but if you are anywhere near Rye/Tenterden, I used to get mine done at Frenchay Farm nr Liegh Green - normally free or about £3 if you want a printout

Looks like I might need to move north...but could I hack it ??........I dont have a whippet...nor a flat cap...on the other other hand it does sound like there are a decent bunch of weighbridge operators there as opposed to the money grabbing bugrs round here :)

I weighed my van about 3 years ago and will probably do it again this year.
Fully loaded etc.
Checked tyre pressures with Michelin.
So....... correct tyre pressures and correct axle/overall weights and complete peace of mind!

How much did it cost?.......I haven't a clue.....all of the above is worth more than a few pounds sterling.

I agree on the value..........but there is a difference between knowing what something is worth and how much you pay for it .And my post was just about the cost.

I also know the importance of the issue but I always try and get value for money......and there is a warm feeling I get from buying anything well.

Go to the recycling centre on the Bell Brook industrial estate at Uckfield. Free if you don't need a printout.

A slight aside, I was born in Uckfield and the little river there was always called the Bell Brook. In recent years some ignoramus has decided that its called the river Uck and has put a sign on the bypass to that effect. As expected it has been subjected to public spirited individuals adding an obviously missing letter to it so they've trimmed down the sign to a funny shape to prevent it. Would have been much simpler to put the right name on in the first place

Early name of Uckfield, Okefield or Okenfield meaning a field of oaks (as depicted on the town arms) and nothing to do with the river/stream/brook

Hi Barry,

Free at a VOSA weighbridge, and you get a stamped and signed ticket. The trouble is, if you are overweight, they probably won't let you continue on your way. Just pull over a drain, and drop the water tank.
If you are pulled in by them (as opposed to arriving voluntarily), and you are overweight, you'll get done.

Link Removed.

Cheers,

Jock.

no need for whippet or flat cap, but given my experience of beer in southern pubs you will need to prepare yourself for the proper ale served here 'up north'. I had a pint of Terrier from a Yorkshire brewer last night, great pint if you can get it.
