Adding an awning (1 Viewer)

Hello all,
If I buy a m/h that doesn't have an awning, can I have one added? If possible, any idea how much I should allow for cost?

Cost would depend on size, but yes, unless there is something extremely odd about the potential new purchase you can certainly have one fitted .. Go to any motorhome show and you will be able to have one fitted on the day if you like... usually free fitting

Expect anywhere from £400 to £1000 depending on size

I had one done in Shepton Mallett meet by Johns Cross Motorhomes, cant remember the cost, but it was reasonable and well fitted.
I suggest that you do not try and fit one yourself, you need at least two persons to do it.

even better with three people....one on each end outside and the other one to put the spreader plates & nuts on inside.

do you feel confident drill a series of holes in your van wall ?

I think twice (and more) before I drill a hole in a wall of my house!!!
I have trouble hanging a curtain so an awning would be waaaaaaaaay beyond me.

But thanks everyone. I now know it can be done if needed.

I just fitted one myself , it took me about an hour and i only needed help to lift the awning up onto the brackets . Anyone with some practical DIY knowledge could do it fairly easily but if you're not the practicle type don't attempt it .

Be warned the standard brackets as supplied will not fit every van, ask before you buy!

agreed Peter, my first kontiki had varnished plywood packers between the center/rear mount and side wall due to a 1/2" stepout where the overcab moulding and wall joined. the front mount was directly onto the overcab/wall overlap.

whoever fitted it placed it too far forward by 4" oh:
