Smelly air-con (1 Viewer)

My american RV's roof mounted air-con works well in that it cools the van down a treat.

Trouble is, it has a slight smell with it. Best way to describe it would be stale...or fusty.

We've cleaned the foam filter in the ceiling but didn't make a difference.

Anyone got any ideas or solutions?

Hi Ho, Hi ho, its on the roof you go :ROFLMAO:

get up there and take the top cover off......you'll be surprised what finds its way in.

i had an old birds nest, complete with eggs, under the cover when i searched for the source of a leak this winter.

You need to go to an HRP or Climate centre and buy some coil cleaner, i cant off the top of my head tell you the make but if you go to one of these suppliers they will tell you. remove the filter and wash with clean soapy water, remove what panels you can to access the evaporator coil and spray the coil cleaner all over the coil leave for 5 mins the spray with clean water to wash off, that should clear your smell, if that fails buy a smelly jelly from the same supplier and stick it up behind the filter.

Hope this helps

You can buy an air-con deodorisor from most car shops or motor factors.

To use, you run the car, put the air con on and after a few minutes, set the can off, shut the door and run!

(a bit like those smoke bombs - only they smell nice)

The car draws it through the system, and before you know it, strange women will be banging on your windows trying to get in.

There are a range of different fragrances to choose from:

Runners' Armpit.
Soldiers' Boots.
Athletes' Foot (but I think you have that one)
Cricketers' Box.

:ROFLMAO:

I am not sure if they come in flavours - but it is around £5-8 a can!:winky:

We had a similar problem with our aircon in our photographic studio. The man who turned out to service it asked if we had some Dettox spray. He switched the aircon on and sprayed the Dettox into the inside air intake. 5 minutes later it was perfect and 10 years later still no problems. had the same musty smell from my car, similar treatment. Perfect again.
Regards Brian.

sounds like something dead on top

I suspect Brian being in the hot weather so long you have a few dead lizards rotting away in the cowling.. or something else dead that is causing the pong.
