I know of a bessacar ready to go, just needs your clothes! 04 plate IIRC, low mileage (22k) owners gave up camping, so has all accessories - I think it is around £20k range.

If not, we may have one retiring this year. I say maybe, as I may pass it onto the share scheme - havn't decided yet.

That was not my question I wanted to know if Alan Kerr was a good dealer to deal with. From what I can make out Swift bent over backward to sort out that guy problems but he did not want to know. the salesman at Alan Kerr told me that they sell about 50 MHs a month so there must be a lot of happy costumers around. You cannot run a company that size and be shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Well - it strikes me that JJ hit the nail on the head.
Anyway - you're possibly in a better position as most - you can always 'ask a friend' :winky:

How about doing what you might do when employing a builder? Go to the company in question (I have no knowledge of who they are, btw) and ask if they have past customers who'd give a "reference", ask how many repeat customers they have and maybe speak to one or two of them? Do they place a "sold by" sticker on MHs they've sold? Maybe you can identify a few past customers by that.
Just trying to think outside the box as I've no idea what the other comments mean. Would say that if you have doubts, go elsewhere, as you're dealing with a lot of money & your hopes and dreams!

Then why are you asking???

Buy one, and find out!

When someone offers help, there may just be a reason??

Off topic I know, but ....

Nice pad, Hollyberry. Although I note your invitation for an overnight pitch with EHU and water free for Funsters, I assume - from trawling through your photos - that you take paying guests? Whereabouts in France are you? It looks a beautiful spot and I envy you .... your house is beautiful

In all fairness, if he sells 50 a month, he will probably have customers that are unhappy, and other that are.

Having sold all those - not met anyone who has purchased from him, nor have I bought, sold or seen any from his dealership - and dealers are thin on the ground down here, with his sales figures being bigger than the multi national companies i am quite surprised.

Cannot tell you if he is good or bad, I suggest you google the name and see what you can come up with, and even wait until next year and see how your friend gets on.

You obviously have committed yourself in your mind to buy from them, I wish you luck with your purchase.

I suggested an alternative, as I would have ANY funster - only because I am in the trade, I know a good, Pampered vehicle when I see it. It wasn't for me, as I wanted new shape for hire - but for a Funster, would make a great little van. Nothing to do with the dealer.

If I ever come across something special or interesting on my travels, I will share the info with Funsters that may be interested, so they may benefit. It is a free 'heads-up' - nothing more.

We live 4 miles up the road, and as we are on the lookout for an RV, thought we would go and have a look round both their sites. Thought possibly they may have taken in a part X yank. (No Yanks)..

And at the outlet on Yalburton (wrong spelling I know) estate that seems to sell all the new ones..

Older second hand ones seem to be at their other site on the Paignton to Brixham road.

The staff were very polite, not pushy, left you alone to look unless you requested help.

And the hour we were there 4 people were doing change overs to new M.Homes. and this was 3pm on Thursday last.

It certainly looked as if they have got some thing right.:thumb:

I bought from Alan Kerr Leisure and picked it up on March 1st. It wasn't new (an 02) it had the wrong rated Tyres on the front wheels, I found that out when I went to renew the tyres on the rear. When I phoned to tell them, they had no hesitation in telling me they would talk to the tyre guy I was dealing with. A couple of hours later the tyre guy phoned to say it was approved, he'd get the Four tyres I wanted, and would arrange with me as when to fit them. (I paid for the rear, A K L paid for the front)

The only thing I found annoying was the hand over, after paying for it, it seemed to go on for hours! I "do not suffer fools gladly" and my bulldust metre was hovering on red, I was on the verge of telling them "Just give me the bloody keys and I'm out of here!" when it was all over and I got the keys.

That was my experience with them.

I will tell you this tho from presonnel experience, If you buy a used one, Read the bloody warrenty they give you as part of the package. It's an outsourced one from an Insurance company specialising in that sort of thing. It's a classic example of a Company covering their rearends with asbestos, Fireproof!

Alan Kerr purchase

Did you buy from Alan. Kerr in the end.

I bought one from him in May. Worst mistake - almost put me off Motorhomes.

Had some extras fitted - they used cheaper items but charged me the same.

They altered the invoice to reduce the value of the van by £3000 - yes 3 grand - reduced my px by the same, but meant insurance value was all wrong. They did reissue the invoice but to me that is just fraud

Including the wrongly fitted extras we found over 20 faults, they had the van back for 10 days in the first 7 weeks. They did not fix all the faults and it has cost me to get thrm fixed since.

They took so long they ruined two of our planned holidays and refused to pay any compensation.

If anyone does buy from them make sure the vehicle is ok before you accept delivery and if you are not happy get a refund and drive away in you old vehicle.

From what I can gather writing down both the sales van and the part exchange by the same amount is a standard recognised procedure in the trade and is quite legal. It's done in order to prevent the dealer paying VAT on any loss that he may make when the PX van is sold on for less than the allowance. If the PX van is sold for more than the allowance then the extra VAT is paid to the revenue. It's all because there is no 'claw back' facility on VAT. I'm told on good authority that it's a legitimate accountancy procedure and one that shouldn't have an impact on insurance value. At the end of the day, provided they weren't seeking to evade paying the right amount of VAT I don't think it fraudulent.

To find 20 faults on a van is a bit disturbing - but then again it all depends on the nature of the faults and how serious they are. Was this a new van or a used one? You wouldn't like to list all 20 would you - so that the funsters can judge them for themselves just how serious they were?

Writing back the value of a part exchange is common pactice in the motor trade especially when they have allowed far too much for the part exchange.

Sounds like they could have paid £3000 too much for it!

Since 1968.
I part exchanged my 2001 Rimor Superbrig 670 based on a Mercedes 313 Sprintshift for a 2003 Eura Mobil Contura 705 based on the Mercedes 316 Sprintshift in April 2011.
The salesperson with whom we did the deal with, Julian, was most helpful and truthful about everything we wanted to know about the new to us vehicle.
The price offered in part exchange for our Rimor was what we thought a good part exchange price and the price we paid for the Eura Mobil was what we thought reasonable.
As we live in either Sunny Southport or Spain we are at best a fair distance away should anything not be as it should be with the motorhome. When we collected the Eura Mobil on the date we were told it would be ready all was in order and the change over was carried out in a most professional manner.
We have done more than 9,000 miles in the Eura Mobil and it's been the best vehicle, motorhome wise, that we've ever owned.
At the moment we are wintering in Spain but will be calling in at Alan Kerr Ltd on our return to have the air-con sorted out, an MOT needs to be done......nothing major, and hopefully we will see something that's on sale whilst we're waiting that takes our eye. If we do, and it's automatic, we will have no hesitation whatsoever in dealing again with Alan Kerr so long as the price is right. If we do buy another motorhome from Alan Kerr he will be the first dealer we will have returned to, which in my humble opinion speaks volumes.
We're not new to this caravaning/motorhoming as we've been doing it for more than 40, yes that's forty years. We have dealt with ten different dealers over the years and have owned just ten caravans/motorhomes. I must add that we do like good quality 'vans and Alan Kerr did have a good selection of quality vehicles, be they new or used, on offer.
We are hoping to downsize to something around six metres long this time and perhaps two beds, air con and an automatic gearbox as we're not getting any younger. Still feel like an eighteen year old though but they all say no:winky:.

I doubt the reported sales figures.
