After extensive testing and training using regulation pies I would like to offer the organisers of the aforementioned inaugural competition the following information to do with as they wish.

Throwing

  1. The pies are one size, this makes those with small hands disadvantaged.
  2. Because of the smooth surface the pie is unpredictable when it leaves the hand:Eeek:
  3. The biggest and strongest thrower almost always wins, regardless of skill.
  4. After throwing, the pie tin becomes mishapen or even ruptured, which means subsequent throwers are disadvantaged.

Rolling

  1. The shape of the tin requires skill to roll it without it acting like a boomerang
  2. Aiming-off so as to obtain the longest straight line distance adds an extra skill level.
  3. Tins are not damaged
  4. Children and women have just as much as chance as of winning as the strong "thrower"
  5. Rolling was 3 times more successful when convincing people to "have a go" - more people - more fun:Smile:

I'm an oldbie MH number 10
can you confirm if we need to bring our own Pies please?

I have not started baking any yet, and wondered if adding extra vinegar will stiffen them up and give me an extra bit of distance.

Thank you,

Also do Olympic rules stand?

As Chairman of the Fray Bentos Pie Rolling Competition Committee I should point out that only official, authentic Fray Bentos Pies still in the tin will be allowed in the contest...

The full set of rules will be published in due course.

Please note that it is rolling and NOT throwing techniques you should be practising!

Who is running 'The Book' on this?

Looks like a tenner on Katie could return a profit.
