Mrs ShiftZZ and I decided that we should go away for a weekend, we posted on Fun for some suggestions of a pub overnighter.
After some searching we found the following:

“The Tunnel House is set in an idyllic rural location nestled between the Cotswold villages of Coates and Tarlton. It is close to the source of the River Thames and sits beside the Thames and Severn Canal.
Inside, the bar has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Furnished with memorabilia from over the years, it has a unique character, guaranteed to enchant all those who visit. Roaring log fires provide comfort and warmth in the winter months, while the garden is a peaceful retreat in the summer.
We welcome everyone to come and join us and enjoy the experience. Our children’s play area is great for the young ones to let off a bit of steam. Or try one of the spectacular walks in the surrounding area. And don't forget to bring the dog. Also, we now offer camping all year round in our stunning grounds!”
Sounded perfect, I had looked it up on Google, nothing close by. Rang the hotel and they stated they were happy with camping the motorhome. They wanted to charge £9 per nights.
We arrived; the approach was stunning, a long gravel road, and a nice country pub/hotel, next to the canal.
First impressions were dashed when I realised that getting a level pitch would be hard if not impossible. I went into the pub to sort things out, the young lady behind the bar went off and I was ‘served’ loose term by a middle aged lady from the Orient.
“We don’t allow motorhomes”, “Well we may do, but no parking on the grass”. That was the sum total of the cordial warm welcome, I went back, walked around but could not see anywhere where we could get any a sporting chance of getting level.
Then it all became clear.
The train went past at high speed, that made the decision simple.... we were on the road to the Anchor Inn, Tintern.
Several pints of Butty Bach made the weekend one that was great.
Would I go back to the Tunnel House Inn?
No.
