worth a mention for those who dont subscribe to MMM.

from 'interchange' section of this months MMM.

according to tests conducted by ADAC, the german breakdown outfit, the 'bell' housing (gearbox to engine) bolts can work loose on the X250 3ltr vans causing problems engaging gears.

this is not a fiat recall but fiat dealers will check and, if needed, retighten the gearbox bolts free of charge.

so if you have one, only the 3ltr allegedly, and experience unusual vibrations or poor gear change go see your fiat dealer.

i believe it can be either manual or auto on the 3ltr only.

no auto box on any other engine as far as i know:Sad:

it's really not a big issue and if you can use a socket and torque wrench its a 20 minute DIY job :thumb:

The questions I would be asking Fiat are:

* Why they are the bolts coming loose in the first place.
* Will re-torquing cure it for ever, or will they need checking periodically.
* Why does it only affect the 3lt model.
* Was this due to an assembly fault, ie. auto torque machine out of calibration due to poor maintenance checks or set up wrongly, or is it a design fault..

Agreed Jim.....many questions need answering.

i'd suspect the factory torque tools at fault.

that would be my guess, and if so, should have been been picked up by QA.

When I worked at Ford's the torque machines were checked before the start of every shift by QA.. with spot checks during the shift ..

Official Safety Recall

This is now an official safety recall. Got a letter from Fiat last week and booked in to have it checked.

It can affect 2.3 and 3.0 versions.

You can check Link Removed to see if your vehicle is affected (Chassis number required).

No problems or recalls with our Tranny!:thumb:

I hope Fiat does the right thing by their customers. Having the end user conduct reliability testing of a product seems so prevalent these days........

There was an official recall for our 2010 2.2 ducato earlier this year for similar issue, we had it done the same time as our 1st service (June/July).

You do need to get these bell housing bolts checked to make sure, I emailed Glenn about it and this is his reply,

Hi Peter
This is actually a Fiat recall, its been out for about 2 weeks.
I have had customers with this recall and also a customers automatic
Autocruise on the ramp (last week) with 2 x bolts missing.
