Evening :thumb:
I wish to start the big change to LED. I plan to start with the 6 bulbs in the main living area, all are in the ceiling and fix into the side of the fitting.
i think they are G4 capsule lamps or thats what they look like when i compare them to photos.
Please have a look at the photo of the bulb i took out and tell me if i have choosen the correct LED replacement in the link. Do tell me off if i am barking up the wrong tree.

Cheers Champers
Thats the worst thing, ordering them and then waiting and finding out they dont fit. Not to mention the waste of of money.
Only ever been to one Motorhome show and that was at Shepton, it was great to look at things and compare them insted of looking at a computer screen.:thumb:

I personally don't like the cool white, warm white is very similar to incandescent.

The second pitfall is the physical difference between a glass bulb and a solid LED. In some fittings the light from the back of the glass bulb is reflected back through the bulb by a close shiny surface, but with an LED cluster the back LEDs hit the reflector and bounce back to hit the LEDs but can't pass through.

You will notice some round modules with LEDs on one side, these point the light in forwards only and don't waste it going back into the holder.

Choose you next LED very carefully Mr Bond, he said with a German accent.

You said it, tricky.

those will work but half the light will be aimed at the lamp housing.

you need the flat disc type which have all the led's pointing downwards.

Many thanks Papa

When you look at them and read the description what do you look for regarding the LED's all facing down or all on the same side?? They go on about beam angle at 120 degrees. would i need to be looking at ones with 180 degree angle. They dont make it very easy or i am being a stool and looking to deep into it. the round flat ones which you showed pic of do they have LED's just on one side??

If i order the wrong ones my mrs will have my knackers as i keep nagging her to stop wastings money buying clothes/toys for our 9 week old baby girl. :ROFLMAO:

We did most of ours at Lincoln last year, I say most because if you need a good light for reading at night I found the LED's were not so good as the originals so we kept a couple over the beds for the night time read. You may want to do the same.

The other thing to be aware of is that if your bulb holder has a reflector then some of the LEDs have some sort of capacitor on the back which prohibits them from going straight into the housing. It may require that you have to remove the reflector first or at least indent the reflector to clear the obstruction.

We used www.ledbulbs4u.co.uk these are at all the shows and seem to be the biggest in led replacements specialising in motorhomes, caravans boats etc. The bulb shown is a G4 3 types available on their site, side pin ( 18 or 25 watt output ) rear pin ( 18 or 25 watt output ) and stack bulbs up to 30 watts output, all warm white or cool white.

They have a display unit at the show that you put your own halogen bulb in and it showed how much power it was using, then put their led bulb in and it showed 10x the power saving with more light output. Very impressive.

Just Starting
I’ve just replaced similar bulbs in my MH with a couple of different LED versions. Both acquired from Hong Kong via eBay.

The first replaced the spotlights over the dinette and bunk:
MR11 G4 Warm White 21 LED Spot Light Bulb Lamp 12V 1W
At £0.99 plus £0.99 p&p

The low profile lights above the stove and in the toilet/shower were replaced by these:
Warm White G4 19 LED Home Spotlight Spot Light Bulb 12V
£1.45 plus £0.20 p&p

leds

Hola
Pappajohn is right in the type of bulb needed. Just be carefull cos i bought some off ebay that were cheap and from hongkong.
I couldn't get the glass houseing back on cos the leds were too fat ie domed. My brother in law just come across to Spain in his motorhome and exchanged 3 of my bulbs with £9/10 ones from England and they are great. Flat and easy to fit. Got glass back on easy and give great light
I've just asked him to get me some more. If you want the website i'll look it up for you
Cheers
David

Thanks for all the help and advise:thumb: i ordered 8 and they all fitted correctly, worst part i found was trying to get the covers off the lights themselves without breaking them.
Had to leave the 5 spotlights as i was getting to rough with them. Would have ended in tears and me breaking something.:ROFLMAO:
