May seem a simple question, but since I've driven company cars for 20 odd years Its been longer than that since I needed to get anything MOT'd.

So my Motorhome was first registered in June 2009 (08 plate), I know there is something about 3years.

So do I get it sorted at the start of its 3rd year (which will be in June 2011) or at the end (by June 2012) ?

Thanks

Peter

HI Peter
Yes June 2012, it's from date of reg, not the reg number. Peter :thumb:

Dont worry Peter the nice people at DVLA usually send you a reminder that its first MOT is due on/by such and such a date, they will also remind you about the legalities of the thing and that if you dont comply the fine will be up to such an amount

Sorry Peter but how can you have an 08 registration no i.e March 1/08 to August 31st 08 and have it registered in 09?

Am I missing something? My van is 08 March,3 months before yours ,and due its first Mot in March 2011.

I'm really not trying to be clever just unsure how your van is 08 but first registered in jun 09 it should be 09?

A 58 plate runs through from September 08 to end of Febuary 09 doesn't it ?

My immediate thought too, but you beat me to it Alan (alcorn54)!

An 08 plate does not equal a 2009 first registration, unless the plate is a personalised one.

Each vehicle has a Birthday IE Date of first registration
To make sure you have no problems
you can have it MoTd up to 30 days before its 3rd birthday:thumb:
so your 1st MoT is valid for 13 months:Cool:
then every year you can re test up to 30 before the expiry date
meaning a 13 month ticket every year the earliest date you can re test will be printed on the mot certificate
example wording is
Expiry date April 15 2011
In order to preserve the anniversary of the expiry date
The earliest you can present your vehicle for test is
16/03/2011
Which means the new ticket expires on 15/4/2011 = 13 months:thumb:
Ps they look nothing like the last MoT cert you saw:Doh:
and they may change again next Jan

But how far in advance of your first reg date do they send a reminder ? My MH is first registered 01/04/08 and due for service in March .

Yep on or before its 3rd birthday ,or you can take it to test station a month before and they will date it from correct start date. a good way to do it if you want to tax on-line as it will be on the DVLA data banks by the time the tax is due ,that is if it falls on same day ,also if it fails you have time to repair it before time.
OH! and dont forget you cant use a standard mot center it must be one that doesClass IV or Class VII vehicles depending on their weight. Ie: someone who does pick up Vans etc. Alan:thumb:
