Hi

What are the potential issues or hazards - if any - when running the engine with the site power still connected.

I've done it loads of times without problem. But this morning a chap comes running over shouting : 'You'll blow all the site fuses!!!!':whatthe:

Will I? Could I?

Not sure what effect it may have on the site electrics but the big question must be, why would you want to?

Don't know what language you need but look up "Brain dead moron go screw yourself".

If you want to be polite.

No chance of harming the site.

Hi I have heard that with an RV running the engine with the hook up still attached can cause problems with the alternator, but not sure why it does so?

Anyone heard this before and know what is the reason?

Regards Pat

Its just after 2 or 3 weeks of sitting on a site with wifey charging phones & running various other stuff via the ciggie plug, I like to run the engine for 20 mins to check all is well.::bigsmile:

Not long enough!
Hi, I was told that it was not good to run the engine on hook-up.

Have you asked anyone else on the site what they do?

Where are you at the mo?

I wonder if it's an out of date wives tail. Maybe in the dark ages there was a badly designed dynamo or alternator that got cooked when on hook up and the myth continues.

Or maybe some peculiarity of yank wiring.

Maybe it's true, you could do some real Myth Buster research for us. Always wear safety kit and have fire extinguishers to hand when Myth Busting.

Now a year - cant believe it!
If you start the engine, it 'disconnects'' the hab. 240v side doesnt it? Does it?? If so, maybe whipping the hook up plug out for the duration my be wise, for no other reason than if the thing got knocked into drive, you may rive the leccy post out of the ground.:Eeek::roflmto:

i would think that the only way you would blow the site electrics would be if you set off and puled their hook up point out of the ground  not like that happens much :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

No!!!

start the engine on a uk conversion and it (usually) disconnects the 12v side, except the fridge and split charge,..the 230v side remains live.

the continentals do it different and the 12v (usually) stays live.
