Secma are a better bet than Qpod.. Shame really but Qpod are usually considerably more lolly than the Qpod for not a considerably better vehicle

Des n Donna have been using a Secma for just over a season now and it has been very reliable
It is towed by a bar that fits on to the front and then lifted on to the tow ball ( quite light and easy to do ) .. as it then becomes a normal two wheeled trailer that is under the weight where brakes are required, a tow board clipped on the back and they are away !!

Took it all over Europe this year ( 3500 miles in 5 weeks ) and must say it has been a god send the few times we managed to meet up and shopping was needed !

Aren't we back to the situation where if the trailer has brakes they have to be operational when towed, even if under the weight limit?

We had a Secma funtech sport which is the same as the Qpod, both made by Secma in France. The latter which took over in this country was marketed by a company fronted by Noel Edmonds, but he is no longer involved I believe.
Cunninghams Garage of Hempnall in Norfolk are agents which is where we had ours maintained.
They are fun but we sold ours for a more substantial toad.
The earlier Secmas have cable brakes and up until around 05 models had single bearings on the rear wheels which when towed on the detachable towbar (front wheels off the ground ) readily failed to my experience.
Max speed around 45mph economy 50+ mpg on the 340cc 4 stroke engine.

Dunno.. But having taken the thing all over EU ( inc Spain ) and all over the UK, I believe Des, and myself if I got one, would not give a bugger about it..

I mean, if we REALLY want to argue semantics how many have a tow bar that does not have a weight plate on it ?

How many do not have a lockable water filler ( how is that for an obscure one ! LOL !! )

There are loadsa rules and regs but realistically .......

As long as people make an informed decision, that is the only issue.

I personally believe that law makes little sense in relation to road safety. But law it is and there may always be the chance that one day you may find a gendarme, Landespolizei, Guardia Civil or police officer from whatever country you are in who may not wish to discuss semantics.

Yes simply, doesn't matter if the 'trailer' is under 750 kgs, if brakes are fitted they must work.

I owned one of the original funtecs which were later called qpod.
It was the 350cc with a single cylinder Lombardini engine,great fun but when it tipped me out in France I decided to get rid.I towed it all over the place with no problems.It was belt drive and automatic,twist and go on the handlebars.A bit cramped for 2 people but we managed well enough,a small boot at the rear for shopping,all in all a good bit of kit if you take your time going round tight corners and dont mind being the centre of attention,not for the shrinking violet type.

A common misconseption, read further down the trailer regulations and you will find "IF brakes are fitted they must work irrespective of vehicle weight"

The rear wheel bearings are also not up to prolonged towing and require replacement frequently.

Just a thought,but becouse of there narrow width and the problems with towing I have seen these on a platform similar to a motorbike carrier on the rear of a motorhome and it didnt stick out at the sides.That is to say they were driven up a ramp cross ways on if you can understand me.

Here is a nice little one. You get full rain canopies for them. Best bet would be a quad trailer and tow on that to get round all the laws and keep legal - or a tow-a-van type trailer - which would keeps eyes off, and give you extra load area.

When looking at buggies - you need 350cc as a minimum to keep a 60mph road speed. They do 125's and 250's but they struggle to keep nat speed limit, which you need for safety. 500 are better handling, more power and will do about 80, but cruise 60.

Or you could always go for one of these....but as you can see by the look on my face you would have to be very brave or very stupid.
