Hi

Anybody got RAC Arrivals via Caravanning & Camping Club? and does this automatically provide euro cover or did you have to by euro cover as extra?

euro cover is at extra cost...dont know how much though.

uk cover is personal as a driver or passenger in ANY vehicle, whether you own it or not, as long as it isnt commercial.

cost is around £80 with no age/size/weight limit.

probably cant do a 5er though unless it can be driven/winched complete onto an artic lowloader.

Thanks Pappajohn.

The restrictions that they use are just confusing. Its app £154 for RAC arrivals. ( but it also says that no additional charge if through C&CC.

But then is also says that euro is additional which i kinda worked out to 163.94 annually. ( but i presume that any other charges for larger recovery vehicle would be an addition charge.

I am alsolooking in to a pay as you go scheme with a couple of other companies HGV Assist etc and blow me also the AA and RAC also have a commercial Scheme. These charge a regsitration fee £14.00 - £25.00 per year and you pay for what you use.

This may seem to be the best route.

Thanks Chatter

Its a joke trying to get this sorted.
I rang RAC and they said no problem sir you are covered however, dont think they had clue what i was talking about, I then email them with pictures and measurements of our rig.

Received email from RAC say they didnt think that the rig would be covered by them and to contact C&CC Club for list of restrictions. hmmmm

OK so emailed C&CC and asked the same question and forwarded the RAC email.
So then got a email from C&CC saying that we would be covered and received email from RAC HQ saying that we would also be covered.

So total UK Coverage + European Coverage would be £343.94 Annual

So gonna what for RAC Commercial/AA Commercial and HGV Assist to get back to me.

Cheers

Hi Tony
yes, we did take out RAC commercial as a backup incase Arrival Scheme let us down when we (if we) needed it!!-----so far, with truck alone and with truck-camper on we have been rescued by Arrivals.
We have not enquired about European cover yet as we have not needed it, but will be VERY happy to hear how you get on, as we still intend to hit the road to Portugal as early in the new year as possible!!!
We don't remember paying yearly for the RAC commercial cover ?? or a registration fee??
How you getting on with your rig ????

Hi Pamala & Nigel
Will keep you info'd ref rac we have got this week to sort it out. All ok with Rig, few teething problems nothing to serious, just finding all the right buttons to pull :ROFLMAO: best advice ref toilet is to spray silicone spray onto the white slide in the bowl as its jamed after about a month, just little bits that you learn. managed to fit the generator in the pickup in front of the 5th wheel which was fun. Just started to sort out stuff for leaving. Was at Pauls last thu having the pickup serviced and MOT all passed. Got an maccerator after seeing the RV film, still got covered in crap:ROFLMAO: must read instructions  Debs thought it was funny.

Look forward to seeing you both soon. We are leaving UK 15th Sept due at Zahora for 1st Oct but we have to go via Ansiaso portugal to complete on the cottage and land we brought there.

So See Ya soon.

RAC cover ...

Hi guys, have you thought of ADAC. The Plus membership gives all you are likely to need in Europe and even some worldwide benefits.

http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx

The best deal is the Plus membership which covers you and your swimbo in Europe in case of breakdown, illess, accident etc.

The ADACPlusMembership protects all vehicles regardless of the vehicle type, which do not exceed the following:

max. vehicle length 10,- m
max. total length 2,55 m ?
max. total height Motorcaravans 3,20 m
max. admissible total weight Motorcaravans max. 7,50 t
max. number of persons (incl. driver) 9 persons

It is a bit of a faf getting the magic ADAC card (German based co) but for £69 it is a great deal.

I've got RAC for the car, bike, scooter and motorhome in the UK
For European travel I just add it to Caravanguard cover which works out cheaper than adding it on to the RAC cover.
Hope that makes sense.

Euro recovery / breakdown

Ant & Debs,

Personally suggest enquiry with Britannia Rescue

Have recently been looking for Euro cover for our 40' / 16.5 tonne ULW American - Like you have done lots of reading of forums such as this

Down side of Arrival for us was the 90 day 'Euro trip' limit

Britannia have a 180 day limit - although their 'blurb' states certain length and weight limits - this is get aroundable in the small print

I would be very apprehensive about any 'salesman' who says "don't worry about the 90 day limit" - how would you feel if about to pay out £6K for a European recovery, only to find that the 'customer' had been abroad for 120 days on a 90 day policy - I see them asking for travel date confirmation in time to come to protect their interests

In our case it was membership of the Motor Caravanners Club (obviously some bulk buying power here) - at a cost of £27 / annually) - then back to Britannia with membership number - have confirmed size and weight of our 'rig' with them in writing and got their confirmation

Only downside they indicate - "silghtly longer attendance time, given need to call specialist recovery" - end result, £112 for Britannia 'deluxe' / £27 for Motor Caravanners and up to 6 months in Europe, worry free :thumb:
