Noisy Turbovent (1 Viewer)

I have a small 28cm fan assisted roof vent, similar to the link below, fitted to my motorhome.

The vent works well and shifts a lot of air.

The main problem is that the noise level is far too high and becomes a real nuisance.

I would like to reduce the noise level by reducing the speed.

I could do this (I believe) by fitting a series resistance either permanently of withe the possibility of switching it out.

Anyone had any experience with this modification and can offer advice?

You want to be searching for a DC motor speed controller.

Maplin or ebay.

I'd take a guess at 5 or 10 amps rating, you should measure this.

All the turbovents I've seen had speed adjustment built in, either by variable resistor or by three position switch. doesn't mean I've seen all the variations of courseoh:.

I do not have the large and expensive turbovent. I have a small 28cm opening with a small crude fan attached inside and it has only a two position switch - air in or air out.

It's great to use when not inside the van - otherwise it does the job but very noisily.

It takes 1.95 amps when running steadily. At start up the digital meter shows about 2.5 amps so the start up current will be in excess of this.

I will now search Maplins for a controller.

PS Dave has fitted most of the bits and pieces I have had fitted to my van - the turbovent I did myself. That first hole through the roof was pure torture!

if you have no joy with a controller you could get a heater blower resistor block from a breakers yard for a few quid :thumb::thumb:
