Hi All,

I have just bought my first motorhome and need to buy an electrical cable to hook electricity up to mains. I have been to an electrical wholesalers where I can buy the 2 sockets and a length of cable to place in between. I will have to arrange putting all 3 together myself. There are a number of sizes of cable to choose from, 3*6, 3*4 and 3*2.5.

Can anyone advise on which size of cable to go for? Or even better, can anyone advise on places to buy motorhome cables that are already assembled. (I’m based in Ireland).

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance for all responses.

It is a lot safer than doing it yourself, if you are not confident with electrics

2.5mm is the size to go for,but be sure you are confident in making it up.

I am looking to buy some Artic cable any suggestions. I already have an armoured cable(for use on some european sites) and a regular lead. Its a pain when you want an early start and the cable just fold coil for packing away.

Hello Brian
Mainly city sites and some aires where you have to run a cable across a road or path.
There is one just outside Prague near the old University ski slope, the camping in Amsterdam by the Ajax stadium, and an aire at Neckershulm Germany to nam but a few.

Since 2008 & many years tugging
UK regs say it should be 2.5mm sq, the rational behind it is the connectors are rated at 16 amps & 1.5mm sq cable is rated at 15 amps (2.5mm sq is 20 amps).

Every other country uses 1.5mm sq cable so do I it's a lot cheaper, a lot lighter and more than adequate for Motorhome use.

Buy the cable on line half the price of wholesalers.
