I keep reading about people having british made motorhomes which will only take 6/7Kg bottles
I presume there is a reason for this , but am curious as to exactly how big the doorway is

....I am aware that they must buy in the doorways , but exactly how wide a bottle will pass ...are they all the same ?

as the 6/7Kg bottles are about 500mm high I know that must pass ok

No idea on locker door sizes, but I would say it's because it's more convenient to have 2 x 6kg/7kg bottles than one or even two 13kg

For information :

Bottle sizes

Cylinder Type Height / Diameter

Butane: 4.5kg 340mm 240mm

Butane: 7kg 495mm 256mm

Butane: 15kg 580mm 318mm

Propane: 3.9kg 340mm 240mm

Propane: 6kg 495mm 256mm

Propane: 13kg 580mm 315mm

Another often asked question, can I exchange one type / size for another..

Calor Information

Cylinders fall into two categories (see below), and may (subject to availability) be able to be exchanged for another cylinder within the same category free of charge.

To exchange a cylinder for one in a different category, a charge may be applicable.

Category A:

Butane: 4.5kg, 6kg BBQ, 12kg, 13kg, 15kg

Propane: 3.9kg, 5kg Patio, 11kg, 13kg, 13kg Patio, 19kg, 47kg

12kg, 18kg and 46kg automotive / Liquid offtake cylinders

Category B:

Butane: 7kg

Propane: 6kg

It's not really the door size that restrict the bottle size you can accommodate but the size of the locker . I can get two 13 kg Calor bottles in my Hymer locker :thumb::thumb:

I would also guess that Motorhome builders also make the gas lockers smaller because of PAYLOAD concerns as full gas bottles are heavy and so they force you to use smaller ones .:Eeek::Eeek:

perhaps I should have been clearer

it's the entry size on BRITISH made motorhomes that I want to know folks , the ones where people say they can only get in the 6/7 Kg bottles

thanks phil and malc , exactly what I wanted to know ...any more offers anyone ? are there other widths on other british motorhomes ?

frankly , that makes the british locker sizes even more incomprehensible to me ; what is the point of making the locker over 400mm wide when the biggest bottle you can fit in is 256mm ?

the point of my question will become clearer later when I have the maximum of information::bigsmile:

could be a number of reasons but i reckon the main one is cost...a small door for 9kg bottles may be £30 but a larger one for 13kg bottles may be as much as £50.

and why fit a large one when theres only locker room for 1 x 13kg and 1 x 9kg ?

My locker takes a 15kg bottle.

The door aperture is 560 x 330 and the inside is 710 h x 370 w x 370 d.

The compartment is fully lined with galavanised steel sheet.

Access to turn the gas On or Off is from inside the van where there is a type of 'Port Hole' with a large screw-in sealing cover.

Phil.

thanks to all for your responses

sounds like a bottle 300mm in diameter and 500mm high would fit in most vehicles at least
