overnight in the lake district (1 Viewer)

Can anyone help,
We are looking for some spots to stay for a night or 2 in the lake's.
still new to motorhoming so we are still exploring.
Any ideas would be great.
No problem with wild camping either.

The Quiet Site, Watermillock, Ullswater. English Lake District

the above site is open 12mths as far as im aware

To give a helpful reply you need to give a bit more info ie. what you are looking for in a site child friendly, adults only,quiet,all action,near a lake.middle of nowhere,electric hook up,showers and toilets,price range,dogs allowed, get the idea one persons idea of heaven can be another persons hell:thumb:

yes sorry your right, we dont mind quiet, not to noisey, by a lake or remote is ok,not fussy about hookup or showers ( all on board ) and we have a dog so walking would be good to.

Anywhere around ullswater is great went there half term you have to remember lots of sites are shut though at this time of year

On the basis that this thread came from "Wild camping" I will Assume that it is wild camping you want. The road from Windamere to Ullswater, Just after Brothers meet. There is a raised car park with the usual "no camping" signs. Have stayed there many a winters night. Lovely views over Ullswater. As you come down off the hillside there is another lay bye on the Left. tucked off the road. I have stayed over night on quite a few of these sites and if you follow the rules of "Wild Camping" the police are not bothered.
There are specific sites about Wild Camping.

Overnight, Raised car park at Kirkstone pass, overlooking Ulswater.
Hailstone and high winds. Wild night as well as wild camp.

Contact the Manager, I am sure they allow the use of their carpark as a stopover.
Possible that the other pubs in Pooley Bridge allow the same - The Sun & The Crown.

Hi, I know that my brother uses the car park at the boat launch area in bowness, it is right in the center and it is £6 for 24 hrs, walking distance form pubs etc, he has a 24ft auto trail and like I said he has used it many times and never had any problems

Hi stayed in the carpark of THE HERDWICK INN at Penruddock for one night in september this year 09.Also as turn for Penruddock coming from Penrith there is the old road on your right which is now a deadend,stayed in a tarmaced gate way for 3 nights no hassle.The Herdwick has good food and drink ,was invited by the landlord to park up over night in his carpark which is pretty level at the top.Access wasnt to bad we have a 19ft motorhomehttp ://www.herdwickinn.com/

near Ambleside

For wild camping near Ambleside either go for under loughrigg - take the signs for Langdale (turn left near the rugby club), cross over the bridge and then turn immediately right, follow this road round for about 1/2 mile and then park near the footbridge crossing to the park. We see lots of campers parked overnight, its only a 5 min walk to the village centre pubs, shops, etc and gives direct access onto loughrigg fell. As an alternative, follow signs for langdale and then when you enter the valley, near Elterwater, there are plenty places, before the langdale timeshare complex, to pull over and overnight. Again a few minutes walk to Elterwater for the pub.

Try the quiet site ullswater they have a realy nice converted barn which is now a bar with open fire good for walking to if you can hack it

The layby off the A66 next Keswick is VERY popular with wildcampers - both motorhomes, tents and caravans!

The Quiet Site at Ullswater that has been reccomended here a couple of times also take Camping Cheques so if anyone has some left over from their travels abroad you could save a few pounds and use them here :thumb:

Hi, we went to bowness on windermere this time last year, parked in main car park during the day £6.50 parked back end over the grass. There is a side road opposite the lake with limited parking during the day ie 2 hours at a time from 9am to 5pm so we parked overnight from 5pm until 11am & then moved on. Stayed 2 days. hope this helps.

Across the road is Castlerigg farm camping sight, they have a cafe/restaurant called the Hayloft, take your own wine/beer the food is top quality.

We tend to use Castlerigg Farm, very friednly site and quieter than the one across the way. In general though the Lakes is a bit of a nightmare for wildcampers as the National Park people seem to employ their own Traffic Mafia who are on a mission to drive people on to the overpriced, overcrowded campsites.

A great place to wildcamp that they seem to ignore, however, is the grassed car park at Wasdale Head, just before the tent site opposite the Wasdale Head Inn. You won't get better views than those around Wasdale and the beer and food at the Wasdale Head Inn is just brilliant!

First outing

Well tomorrow we are heading out on our first real adventure in our Motorhome. After reading loads of these really useful forums we are heading up to the lake district. We are going to do a mix of Wild Camping alternating with using Cl sites.( We have joined the caravan club as a back up.) Our plan is to leave tomorrow evening as Ed has to work in the day. We will than get a few miles out of the way before we stop. We should get to Stoke on Trent at a reasonable time. Obviously it would be too late then to go into a site so we are looking to stop of somewhere convenient. Does anyone know of any good stopping places in that area for an overnight stay? I'm still feeling apprehensive about this new hobby but I'm sure once we've been and done it it will be fine.
