Hi, Anyone got a 584 with the table that's been modified to fold down?
What's it like to live with, who did it, and is it worthwhile?
Any info you can think of will be very useful.

I considered this
I think it all depends on how much you use the table ; if you just use it for meals it is maybe a good idea to modify , although that depends on the price is suppose
but personally we use the table a lot , there always seems to be a computer , or spread maps or something else being put on the table ; also being able to just pull out the extension to pop a cup of tea on while having a lie down on the settee would be sorely missed
so a cost benefit analysis showed it wouldn't work for us
actually , we don't find the 584 claustrophobic anyway

Thanks for quick replies, actually we don't find the 584 at all claustraphobic, just thought it would be handy, we don't use the table prehaps as much as some.

It was the prices I was quoted that made me initially decide against it.
In the long term I'm glad I didn't go for the modification.

Search on the "dark side" for Hymer table mods.
You should find some pics and info.

I did it myself and it makes the whole living area seem much bigger when the the table is down. Much easier also if you use the ladder for bed.

Never used the pull out, so that got ditched.

Why Hymer didn't make that table a "folder" in the first place I'll never know, IMHO it's miles too big in a van of that size. It's only a three berth after all.

absolutely nothing to it , I whipped my table out to do something else , a few screws , got a table leg in the barn , cost to me nothing

just wasn't for me

only problem...hole in the carpet for the leg fitted on mine

I converted ours to a drop down and it works well, giving much better access to the drop down bed besides more space
Got the info from the dark side
As long as you are resonably handy with the tools it,s no problem
Be careful when you saw it off and get someone to hold up the cut off bit as it is hollow and quite fragile
You then have to fill in the gaps with timber, well glued in, and hinge with piano hinge

Best of Luck:thumb:
