Hi everyone, is there an ''idiots guide'' for the first outing in an RV? Also what do you use to level them? We have some yellow fiamma ramps that we use for the caravan but they look like they will squash flat under a 6 1/2 tonne RV!

BTW - we are calling her Wilma!
cheers

first you park on a level bit of ground. then no need for levelling, hee hee.
A lot of RV's have built in levelling jacks.

Hi Eclaire,We used to have a C class Rv about six and a half tons that used to ride up quite happily on the fiamma levelers that we used with the caravan. If you are unsure then make your own with short planks and bits of 4x2 timber and any other bits you might have lying about,
Even with the hydraulic levelling system on our A class RV I still carry home made ramps and bits of 6x4 and other bits and pieces of timber, the reason for that is although the jacks level perfectly sometimes the front wheels can lift off the ground,In my opinion very bad practice so with the ramps the wheels are supported.
Just a small tip,for your first couple of outings take a pen and paper, you will come home with a list as long as your arm of what you need next time out.

Hope you're having a great time if you are away over easter.
Regards,John P.

Hi,get the heavy duty Fiama ramps, they are wider.
If you know a local builder, cadge a scafold plank and cut it into 2 foot lengths, they will hold the weight.

Plenty of good advice on means of levelling, rather than carrying a bead if you have an Iphone several good apps available to check that you are actually level.

What is an I-phone? and what is an App? and how do they help level a van?

For checking levels I use a spirit level ... one glass with a line on it and when the gin is level with the line ... so is the van and now motorhome! and if it is not after a few attempts I tend not to notice!!!! :ROFLMAO:

An app is an application(program) that you can use on an I Phone (Mobile Phone)that turns it into an electronic spirit level
at about £400 quid we should all have one:Doh:
I much prefer your gin powerd version, proberbly more acurate:thumb:

If your refering to the I phone
I have seen thousands of apps for them, as for making a phone call Ive never seen an I Phone user do that:Doh:
If its the Gin power you refer to,
Most Gin users are either extreamly loud and dont need phones. or extreamly quiet and dont want to talk to anyone:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hmnn...Quite a long time really...
Well, my system is poverty-driven..., I use the Isaac Newton app.

Couple of tins of beans laid on their side on the floor or table..
When they quit rolling, it's level.
Easier if the navigator or on-board au-pair can assist...

As for ramps, Having crushed some steel ramps first time, I have a railway sleeper cut in half with some steel mesh fixed on it. Prop up one end on those lightweight blocks and drive up until levelish. Kit lives in basement when on the move and I love the nostalgic smell of creosote (Sigh)

Happy Easter all.

Ok! It didn't take much but I'm converted, the Iphone stays at home and Gordon comes with his buddy Tonic. Cheers :thumb:
