See if you can find a good Chiro in your area - they are actually trained in the art.......i found out recently, that Physios' 'Know a bit' but do not recognise manipulation......Quite alarming really!

I have a spinal injury, and Chiro can get rid of all known numbness, headaches and sciatica in around 10 seconds flat. Lasts for months too! They are Doctors, do 10 years training...sounds more expert to me! :thumb:

I'm here to tell you that my Physio knows about manipulation

A couple of years ago I was ready to retire on disability. One doctor happened to mention that I could be refered to a Physio at my local hospital.:whatthe:

He was fantastic, I'm fitter now than I have been for years. Long live Physio's:thumb:

Yep I agree my physio (private practice £30 ph) is excellent she has kept me mobile for last 10yrs or so. Expensive but cant be waiting for appointments with NHS. I ring her up and get seen same day and she operates 1/2 mile from my home so very easy to "Crawl" to when its really bad and I know that those of you with "Acute" sciatica will know exactly what I meen.

I'm not saying they can't do it....but due to the fact that the NHS do not recognise it, nor condone it they are not trained in what they are doing to the level a chiro is.

When you are dealing with spinal stuff - I would rather pay for someone who KNOWS what they are doing, and is qualified enough to over see surgeons. No dis-respect for physios - but I wouldn't trust the servicing of my motorhome to someone who 'Knew a bit'.......so why do that with my body??

I have had many a row with the NHS about it - but they state that manipulation is poppycock and quack medicine...so why do they do it??? They never have answered that!::bigsmile:

You have my deepest sympathy and I wasn't meaning to be disrespctful. The physio I see is excellent and I feel I must defend him. I dont see how he can be unqualified, FULL STOP.

I know for an absolute certaintey that he knows what he is doing with my body although I woudnt let him near my motorhome. :winky:

I dont know what a Chiro is let alone what they do.

I did go to a Neurological Surgeon once who said he wasnt prepared to take the risk of cutting me up.:whatthe:

Any how all the best :thumb:

non as yet, hired in Canada a couple of times. hope to buy in the next few years.
I slipped a disc and had pain all the way down to my toes. Went to see Specialist who said that I could have it operated on or wait and see. Waited and got better but was left with lower back pain, Hubby got me a masage chair for Chrimbo after using it for 3 months pain free and have been for 3 years. Touching wood as I type.
I also got carpel tunnel through work numb right arm and neck pain went to Chiropractor 3 visits, 2 weeks apart, Ice packs on my neck and exercises did the trick.

TBH, I think that regular, programmed excersize is 99.99% of the cure and its something that you have to do for yourself. Its no good lounging about and then complaining that your full of aches and pains.

explained Jim....Chiropractor

ANYONE who can cure my ailments, as and when needed, gets my vote.

as a kid i had an old romany woman (a mates granma) draw off a boil on me belly using egg white and the shell membrane.
a lot less painful than the doc would have been lancing it :Eeek:

if the NHS dont recognise Chiro then why will some refer you to an acupunturist...that certainly aint western medicine:RollEyes:

I have the nerves down my back (waist downwards) burnt away about every two years which means I can walk far better and this time round its worked better than ever albeit the nerves do grow back

Why not find out if they can do that with the sciatic nerve.

Hope this helps.

No offence taken Jim! I never take offence!

A chiropractor specialises in bones, spine and spinal cord with all the attached nerves etc. They are doctors, 7 years basic training, 3 years specialising in manipulation and surgery.

To run through the story very quickly. Had accident at work, dislocated pelvis, crushed lower vertebrae and shoved one inwards, that trapped the spinal cord. Result was - paralysed, neck down no feeling in tongue/face/unable to speak etc BUT could feel PAIN!! Intense pain, legs would jerk uncontrollably skywards, which was murder - but could not move or feel them - just pain.

Anyway - NHS to the rescue - 2 1/2 year waiting list...guess they thought I wasn't going anywhere soon!. So was recommended a Chiro.

Wheeled in, he undressed me, hung me up and x-rayed, asked if i had been run over by a lorry. 30 mins later, I leave walking but still in pain and stiff - took about 6 weeks to get bones back in place.

Enter NHS physio - just an assesment to allow me to be added to the coveted waiting list. Sees i am seeing chiro and goes into a tirade of quack stuff and bleating and stating that they can do the same (If it is quack-how come they do it??)

So we go into all that arguing stage, with her boss at NHS. So HOW qualified are the physios? "Oh they are qualified in physiotherapy and 'know a bit' about chiropractic care" she said. So how much training in Chiro? "Day courses mainly, some longer" i am told. "NHS do not yet accept it, thus they will not invest funds in training". So then I bring up the million dollar question...so what happens if they do something wrong? "Well, it isn't an official treatment, as it is not officially recognised". That wasn't the question. What comeback do I have if you mess up and I am in a wheelchair.? "Well, none. We don't accept it as a form of treatment, but do it as a favour".:Eeek:

So that was that! Given what they had told me, which contradicts itself all along - I had a year of this bleating, and none of it made sense. I left them to it.

I would rather see the man that knows - at least until the NHS make up their minds anyway!:thumb:

If the physio does fail as it did for me then see if your Doc will prescribe Arthrotec 50 for you.

I know we are all different in our responses to physio and medication but that is the only drug I found to keep me mobile that had no side effects whatsoever.

I just found it amazing at taking all the aches and pains away that I always associated with old age, which was a bonus as I just wanted the back and leg pains to go away.

I agree that if physio works it is far better than taking drugs but better drugs than horrid back pain

Keep it moving Alan

Aug 09 to date 9,000 miles!
FWIW I hurt my shoulder, wrenched it serving at tennis. Eventually severe pain all the time down arm, arm would suddenly go dead and jolt of pain in elbow and I'd drop stuff, all movement severely restricted. (couldn't visit loo on own) Had to sleep with a pillow supporting it. Eventually whilst waiting for NHS physio, paid to see consultant privately, X-rayed it (first one!) and told me only cure was to yank it operatively but he didn't recommend so just live with it. (????)

Saw physio, second visit physio clandestinely gave me a card to an ex NHS physio now in private practice.

Saw her, she prodded about and said tendons had calcified and were now covered in nodules and firmly stuck to shoulder blade. Started to wear the knobs off by inserting thumbs into hollow and working them off on bone. We could bpoth stand 10 minutes of this, Then would share a box of tissues to dry our tears and blow our noses. 3 x per week for about 6 months and I was 100% cured. Cost me X £100 and well worth every single penny.
