I have a 2005 ci carioca 656 and after pulling into a service station coming back from dover, i noticed a wire dangling from beneath the engine.
pondering for 10 minutes wondering what the hell it was, i noticed the 2 orange night lights and the rear night light on the drivers side was out. all lights on passanger side were fine.

i put 2 and 2 together and realised that it must be somthing to do with the dangling wire.

does anybody know where this wire goes, i've looked high and low and cannot spot the terminal on where it should go!

if anybody knows of where it should go, please help!!

thanks

Best thing is buy a manual for the van.

I could never be without one and the wiring diagram , to me, is the most important bit.

If you feel confident handling vehicle electrics, have a go.

Otherwise consult a vehicle electrics specialist.

You didn't say whether the wire has a terminal on the end.

A lot of my lighting wiring goes through the bonnet bulkhead/loom at the front before going to the rear light assemblies via a connector and sub looms.

I have just rewired parts of it to proper spec.

Good Luck.

Hi Yorkie
If its like mine there will be a main fuse box under the bonnet. You could try looking around the fuse that does these lights, which should be shown in the handbook. If you haven't got a handbook you can download one for free (click here) Link Removed

Loose wire ?

Yorkie,If your still there or here ?Please give more info,as to colour etc, have you logically held the 'dangly wire' and moved it about ,hence seeing where it could stretch/reach too ?
What connection has it male or female, bullet or spade ?or nowt, just wire ?

theres no coloured wires as its encased in the cable protector. it has a spade like end coming out of a 2" plastic cylinder with silver wire on the side of the cylinder shaped like an 'M'.
i'll get my inpection light out and have a good root tomorrow. if all fails i'll take a picture and post it on here and hope sombody recognises it.

thanks

i do apologise if you cannot decifer the description.

Is the spade end a receptacle? (i.e. could you push a thin piece of metal into it)

If so my hunch says it should connect to a sensor on the engine, as barnybg suggested, I would be looking for something within easy reach of the wire with a male connector. (The cylinder may be there to shroud the sensor from damp & damage)

Do check it looks right before you plug in though, do the dirt marks match, is it an easy stretch, etc.

ok, the weather beat me (just wont stop raining), so i managed to get a few photos of it with my phone.

there is a thick loom located on the opposite side of the engine bay to the battery. 2 thinner looms branch off the thick loom, 1 short (plugged into the bottom side of the engine) could be oil pressure sensor?, and the one pictured is the longer thin loom.

anybody any ideas?

i'm thinking its nothing to do with the lights, i also think its a sensor...

Stick with your day job, you're not cut out to be a photographer.

This looks *serious*. That tab at the end, does it move, is it some form of sensor ?

Spare wire for optional foglights ?????

is the end of the tag smooth or ragged, will the plastic above it pull out from a female socket. to me it looks like a broken engine sensor the part you see could be broken not become unplugged.

hi wildman, the end of the tag is smooth and i dont want to start pulling at it incase it isnt broke (abit heavy handed). i know the pics arent that good (thanks hilldweller...lol) but there looks to be 2 runners on it as though it slides onto something.

Just been crawling under my van looking for something similar, couldn't find anything that looks the same.

Then had a thought, googled CI Carioca 656 and found out that the engine is the 2.3 and not the 2.8 as in mine

No problem - had another crawl. Although not the same colour it looks similar to the reversing light connector on mine.

From memory this cable is hanging down from the van near to where the fog light would be, if it was fitted. The "Tab" is a protective insert for the connector. Remove it and you will see that it is nothing more. The cable was probably nestling on the inside of the bumper until it got dislodged.

i was going to sy exactly the same thing....

it is a blanking plug for a redundant (to your model van) wire.
if it had come adrift from something it wouldnt have the blank plug in it.

a lot of cars/vans use a 'common to type' loom and some parts of the loom arent used on some models while they are on others.

(my hilux has headlamp adjuster motor housings and wiring but no control knob or motors....)

tie it up out of harms way.

oh....lol
so the best thing is to use some insulation tape and just tie it up to the loom.
and
check for loose or blown bulbs in the lights that have gone out.

thanks everybody that have posted

more than likely a blown fuse with it being all side lights on one side only:thumb:
