Awning confusion (1 Viewer)

Hi all can anyone give me some hints on how to attach an awning to a coachbuilt motorhome(autosleeper ravenna2003),Iam considering an outdoor revolution easi canopy ,new to all of this so any pointers would be much appreciated.....

If your vehicle doesnt have an awning rail you need to put one on, You can buy it from riversway and other caravan accessory shops. I have used the riversway one in the past and am about to on my new van. I also used the sealant that comes in a roll between the rail and the van so that when it was screwed up there was no where for water to get in.

awning rail

i bought one from waudbys online shop.
i stuck it to the van using sikaflex 521, so no holes in the side it's been on for 12 months now and have had no problems.
even in the gales here in albir.

I also fitted a rail , but it's not essential, my Movlite XL awning has straps that can be thrown over the roof and pegged out on the other side.. This is fairly good but doesn't give as snug a fit as a rail.. They can also be attached to existing pull out awnings.

Do you want to be able to drive away and leave the awning closed up until your return? If so then attaching it to an awning rail will prevent that and you would have to pack it up every time you wanted to go out.

On the occasions that we used an awning, only once or twice did we erect it as an extension to the van. It wasn't a super snug fit, but then a lot of the porch type awnings aren't either. Other times we erected it as an extension to the wind-out, either in front or alongside.The drive-away that we currently have, and only used a couple of times has a fairly long sleeve and I intend to fit a row of, maybe, three short (30mm) sections of J rail to enable it to be clipped into the wind out awning track.

I can't for the life of me remember how we fitted the Harrison to the vanside; maybe it was straps over the roof as Jim suggested, but Pat thinks not, so seems like it was something else.oh:

I'll have a look at my Ireland photo's and see if I can jog my memory.

seeing as how the op is new to this, there are the 2 options above with several different manufacturers and styles or there is the fiamma route to go down which gives the choice of just using the canopy or turning it into a privicy rooom
